Tony Bellew isn't that special, he is just average boxer, who has average ring IQ, he doesn't have punching power. He is mentally tough and can fight, but thats all. He belongs to same category as Derek Chisora. Well marketed, but not that great boxer.
For every 10 unlucky average fighters, there's always a lucky average fighter. Tony Bellew is that lucky average fighter. He went from being the guy to have wars with Chilemba which every good LHW would be expected to beat without major difficulties, being knocked out by Stevenson, to beating both Makabu for a WBC title AND a badly injured David Haye in a big domestic fight...whilst catching the benefits of having a promoter like Eddie Hearn.
Depends on what you consider average. Average among top fighters? Yeah, maybe even below average. Average overall? Nah. He's a good fighter, better than most. I'd say he's above average overall. He's not special though, much less at HW.
unbelievable cringe worthy thread... Doesn't have punching power???? Bellew fought in three different divisions just beat former champ who was suppose to murder him... If Ward beat Haye people would be crowning him top 10 GOAT give me a break Tony Bellew is a HOF, former world champ you keyboard warriors are a Joke!!!!
I think he's improved in his 30's as a lot of big men do. Hard to gauge his level though. Would like to see him in with someone durable who isn't injured.
Why do boxing fans judge so harshely? If he was an average boxer, he'd be ranked 5,000th or something.
How on earth does he belong in the same category as Chisora? Like it or not Bellew has won and defended the WBC CW title, I could understand you saying in the same bracket as Wilder but Chisora? Actually Bellew has a better win at Heavyweight than Wilder does. Bellew has made the most of what he is yet somehow you make it sound negative. You should be saying how well he has done with what in your opinion is limited talent. And as for the "well marketed" comment, yes he has been promoted well and been given good opportunities, your point being what? Conor McGregor is in a mega fight with Mayweather, 0 fights under his belt, but he has this opportunity because of promotion, marketing and money, that is a huge part of boxing now, social media, YouTube, Tv, self promotion and creating interest is very important. Bellew has won a world title, so the opportunity he was given was taken, he proved he was worthy of the opportunity not just lucky or well marketed.
