Some non-league'ers do better than league players. My cousin's ex husband played for Scarborough before they went bust, including against Chelsea on the BBC.... then got a move to Lincoln but had to take a pay cut to do it. At Scarborough he was on about £700 a week and played for the England non-league side. Whilst that was ''full time'', plenty of conference clubs were part time, so it gave the lads chance to earn a few quid on the side, though apparently not many did. I'd imagine earning in the mid £30k's for half a week's work would be cush, but I'd make sure I did a bit elsewhere for the future, considering you're done by the time you're 35.
Yeah you would want to be putting the majority of that 30k away so you have a nice cushion to live on when you retire from the game. Get your house/cars etc paid off and then live the high life
Yeah there's not a lot of difference between non league and league clubs, well some anyway, he moved to Gillingham last summer for about 75 grand and gets paid roughly a grand and half basic pay with bonus's, they gave him 10 grand signing on fee, Crawley Town who's in the conference offered more.
I'd probably use the spare time to study and get a trade or some qualifications behind me. At Leeds, the rugby players have to do something as part of their contract, it's a way of a club providing benefits to the players without flouting the rules of the salary cap (£1.8m per year for the whole squad). That's something as simple as going on an advanced driving course, training to be a special constable, or going to building college or uni. Good idea really. Keeps the lads out of the pub and the bookies.
That does sound a good idea. My mate only made it to a higher level a few years ago, he was playing Kent League football untill he was 23 so he's a qualified electrician by trade, he can always fall back on that if need be.
That's rare that players make the step up at that age. Fair play to him.... usually lads have realised it's not happening and spend their time drinking and chasing dodgy women like the rest of us.
Yeah that's him, he's done well for himself, its hard to believe we once played for the same team, many moons ago.
was good for wimbledon, scores a decent amount of goals I can't see tony staying with frank long, like people have said frank is seeing tony as his back up light heavyweight and will probably only rematch him with clev if clev loses his world title or interest in his fights is too low.
He was always a class above but never really took football seriously plus he was a lairy sod which didn't help, then it got to the stage where he thought I will knuckle down a bit and give it a go, if it happens it happens kind of thing. Thankfully it did eventually.
