Tony Bellew Step Up in Class with his oponent for Friday, Jindrich Velecky - (Won 16 (15 KO) - Lost 6 - Drew 0). Recently Velecky went 10 rounds with the current WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz. Velecky KO'd Michal Bilak in the 1st round. The same Bikak who went the distance with Paul Smith in Smiths last fight. This shows he is a very dangerous fighter, with alot of experience and should give Bellew tough test. How do you think Bellew will do?:bbb
Good to see bellew finally geting a good test, this should be a intresting fight, also we will find out just how hard bellew punches
I think its a typically dangerous and pointless Sports Network/ Frank Warren promotions match up. I have no idea how he will get on because he has no British form and the result will give us little idea of Tony's progress. 15 ko's indicate he can punch a bit so Tony wins no ones' going to care (in terms of value of victory) and if he were to get caught cold or with a butt or something then his career suffers a major setback against an unknown opponent. These type of matches are pointless. If your going to step him up in class do it against someone with British form not some eastern european who could be great or could be ****- who knows. Yuri Romanov, Lazlo Bognar, Afif Djelti, Yuri Epifantsev, Andreas Galfi, Lorant Szabo all emerged from nowhere with wins over British fighters who had no clue whether they were going to have a typically easy or unusually tough night. Stupid Match up. And no one can predict the outcome with any accuracy. That said Tony Best of luck... :happy:happy
I like the fact he is being "trusted" with such a match up. Howver i hope it doesn't come back to bite him on the arse the same way in which allowing prescott fighting khan did
i agree it is a pointless matchup and a potential banana skin. but in saying that, i know tony personally and he is very confident of a victory. i watched him and frankie gavin training last night with anthony farnell, and both fighters look in superb shape and condition. i think tony will stop this guy in the middle rounds.:bbb
I hope so too. No doubt he will. Hate these matches though. Why not step him up against someone British. I'm not racist or anything but its a no-win situation for the lad. Great website by the way mate. :good
Thanks Jeff. i agree mate, but what people dont no is alot of good british light heavyweights wont fight tony, so what else can he do?
I don't blame him and I feel bad for Dean Powell who has a tough job, but its just something that needs to change for ythe sport to improve. We got a better idea of Billy Joe Saunders the other day as we saw him struggle a little with Spitko while Arnfield and El Maachi had a fairly easy time with him. Relevant matchmaking.
It's an interesting point Jeff because as you mentioned in your first post, the guy is a very legitimate opponent and is a serious test. The fact that he's not British doesn't change that in my opinion. I know that the fight was offered to several domestic light heavies in the past few weeks, such as Danny Macintosh, Joey Vegas, Bob Ajisafe but for one reason or another they weren't able to make those fights. Ovill McKenzie was the opponent they were trying to get earlier this week and that fight also didn't come off. My way of looking at this fight is that a win here (any win) will see his stock rise much quicker than a win against some of the guys mentioned above. Also, Anthony has been on Frank Warren's case about stepping up and fighting for titles...well now he's stepping up... A quick scan on youtube shows the guy is slow and a bit cumbersome with his footwork, but he can certainly bang. He's dangerous. Ant will keep him on the end of his jab and throw the big shots when the guy gets in range and I think he'll stop him late or win UD. I'm confident he'll win, but I will be the most nervous I've been at any of his pro fights so far
as we all know matchmaking in boxing is so annoying. we all know the fights we want to see, but politics and money make fights. i would love to see Price v Fury, but that wont happenen for a year or so. also bellew v cleverly, but that wont happen either until it makes money sence. why put two unbeaten light heavyweight stars, managed by the same people in the ring and risk one of them. i think bellew would be to powerfull for clev though.
It is tough to match him - I'm not saying people are frightened to fight him but for someone like Macintosh, why would he take that fight off the back of getting hammered by Clev? Light heavy is not a division overflowng with talent domestically and I think it's going to be increasingly difficult to match him with home grown fighters, assuming he wins this Friday??? The Cleverly fight will happen, but unless one of them loses soon, I don't see it happening for 18 months / 2 years...because Warren wants them to be as far along as possible before they meet...
Ive seen this guy fight and hes more than useful to be honest ... good luck to Tony but think Tony could go down .. i predict KO in the 5th , Tony loses !
