Past heavyweights used to do it as well, since it kept them from getting lazy and showing up fat. Foreman talked about hating being forced to cut down to 220 or less when he younger from 230+. In his second career he cut down once against Qwai, but for the rest of his career didn't bother and showed up at 250+.
another way to look at is is Haye didn't prepare properly in the last fight physically or mentally, came in with a serious injury making him immobile, and Bellew still couldn't get a one legged man out in six rounds and also could barely hurt sitting duck Haye after landing flush shots. its not that clear cut to me, if Haye is not hampered too much by injury he has a better than decent chance. I have a feeling Haye will blast Tony out fairly early.
well I'd suspect they were a bit dim if they based their opinion on that, he was a skeleton at LHW. Since he's moved up, his resistance has improved. Even with the Makabu shot, he was more caught square on than rocked. he took Hayes bombs and didn't even flinch, and Haye was trying to take his head off with every punch
that's not another way to look at it, that's a completely different conversation. I'm not talking about their first fight, I'm talking about the two boxers, and if Haye has trained hard, that just makes it more likely he will get injured. if he tore his Achilles while training 1 day a week (like he did last time), and tore a bicep going up the stairs, what is a gruelling, long camp going to do to his dilapidating body? Bellew broke his hand in the 2nd or 3rd round as well, thought he could take Haye out and he ended up gassing a bit. What if he corrects that? I just think taking everything into account, Bellew should win. 4 years ago, I'd pick Haye by brutal KO coz the speed he used to have combined with the mobility, I wouldn't be able to see Bellew dealing with it, but that Haye doesn't exist anymore
He was not caught clean by Haye glancing or while moving back etc. and also haye was so slow and telegraphing his punches bellew had time to prepare. I expect haye to be more quicker to move into distance. People seem to forget how good a boxer Haye was from his earlier day. His distance control in his prime was very good. If he can keep a good distance and pounce i see a wobble from Bellew and its over. It was bellew who was gassed in the first fight not Haye.
First fight at HW you'd expect him to gas wouldn't you? What happens now if Bellew has adjusted to the weight slightly better the first time?
I just think Hayes firepower will just make bellew to reluctant to engage hence what happened in the earlier fight. The firepower Haye has there is no substitute, he will catch bellew at some point.
