He can brag all he wants mate. He's had to listen to almost everyone telling him he was gonna get sparked early. What ended up happening is he actually handled Haye comfortably. He was slipping his power shots with ease THEN the achilles went. Have a look at Bellew's record, fight 32, David Haye, 'WIN'. TKO round 11.
from my own point of view its not about making excuses. Tony won the fight and deserves credit, but he did beat an injured fighter and seems determined to point out he broke Haye, when in reality the injury did play a part. Its the trying to misguide the public that annoys me. He is making out he systematically beat Haye like Holyfield did to Tyson, but the tide only changed after Haye was injured, he was very arguably losing. So is it so bad to be annoyed at Tony because he is making out he walked Haye down from the start? The pre fight stuff may have been a bit much but its hype, Bellew knows this, he has said some pretty harsh things himself. Making out he had to send his wife away into hiding is hilarious, another passive aggressive dig at Haye. I give Tony massive credit doing what I believe he couldn't, lasting past a few rounds. but what he is saying now, with the help of Hearn, is fast losing him respect, the real fans know Tony is talking up this win.
I agree he was doing a good job of avoiding MOST of the power shots. Still losing the fight though. Pretty irrelevant though what's matters is the WIN
Bellew can't beat Klitschko, Fury, Joshua, Parker, perhaps Wilder, but he is just not big enough for heavyweight..................his only choice would be a rematch with Haye............
Those were the two potential realities though, as no one knew what Haye had left. It's not the same situation as if haye had been fighting live opponents regularly and then either claiming mismatch if he wins or he's a has-been if he loses, that wouldn't be fair as people would have been able to judge where Haye was pre-fight. It was almost somehow a lose-lose situation for both. As it stands, no one knew if Haye had much left and this fight proved he didn't. He was doing okay before the injury but I can't see Haye of 2010/2011 looking the way he did in the first couple of rounds against bellew. His timing, speed, accuracy and maybe even power have all dropped quite significantly IMO.
Doesn't matter if he can't beat those guys, he'd still get paid a fat wedge to lose to them, right or wrong Bellew is a big draw right now who has many options for a big payday. Parker would probably bag him 2m, Wilder or Haye would probably land him 3-6m easy.
Haye's fans on ths forum should be ashamed and embarrassed of the way they've ungraciously carried on since last Saturday night. It's utterly ridiculous. A week ago there was NO WAY ON EARTH Bellew could beat David Haye, there was no way on earth he'd last even up to the 6th round with David Haye, there was no way on earth he'd be able to cope even with an injured David Haye. Bellew was considered the type of opponent any version of Haye was expected to sweep aside within 3 rounds at the most, even a Haye running at about 30% of 40% would be expected to smash Bellew in a few rounds, he'd just have to land a couple of half-decent shots. This isn't about whether Bellew's full of sh!t or not. It doesn't matter. The very fact that these Haye fans are still even remotely interested in what Bellew's saying 5 days after the fight says it all. The "butt-hurt" emanating from Haye fanatics is absolutely palpable.
