Pick'em fight. Both are IMO in a similar class. Mayweather never fought anyone as good as Canzoneri - Pac was not at the time him and Mayweather fought I think. Tony did fight some fighters in a similar class to Mayweather. So, I think Canzoneri has experience on his side here. However, on fight night Floyd would be considerably bigger than Canzoneri which at the very least would even the odds again. We saw how close the Canzoneri-Kid Chocolate fight was - who was somewhat similar to Mayweather albeit busier. I think Mayweather was a bit better and faster than the Cuban Bon Bon though. I may lean to Floyd in the end, ever so slightly. But then there is the asterisk of him never fighting someone of that class. Great match up.

Yes, Mayweather's resume it's quite thin when it comes to greats. That means we do not know how he would do against someone in his own class. We know how he did against very good fighters or faded greats which gives an indication that he would do reasonably well.
However, when the very best fight the very best it comes down to very small advantages, in size, styles and especially intangibles. We never saw Mayweather having to show those. We did see that from Canzoneri multiple times.
I pick Mayweather but it is not a confident pick due to the asterisk over his intangibles. Guess that makes me a hater. Ah, well, I've been called worse.

Against someone like Monzon or Hagler? Yes, of course. I know it is a bit unfair to fighters who never had the chance to fight boxers in their own class, like Golovkin, but then if you want to try to as objectively as possible assess how a hypothetical fight between two greats will go and one of them had fights against other greats and had to dig deep in those, so we do know he made that experience and can dig deep while his opponent never had to and never showed he can, well, yes, than there is a question mark behind his ability to do so.

What does the ring's ratings have to do with assessing how a fight between two fighters is going to play out?

You should probably learn how to quote properly before calling other posters stupid...

That said, Mayweather's edge in terms of size and speed probably carries the day against a guy who had a hands down, bait-and-rush style like Canzoneri.
