Among the all-time greats where does he stand ?

(Pound-for-pound, or in any of the relevant weight classes.)

I have him one below Monzon, one above Ketchel, just inside the 25 (#25) all time, pound for pound. I'm happy with that, as happy as I get when ranking a fighter I don't know inside out.

Where do you have him Sonny?

EDIT: When did I start calling you "Sonny" like that is your frigging name?

Im just getting through my personal list right now of a top 50, and although it is not finito I have him roughly 33rd/34th right now. I'll get the list up when Im done, but everything is sketchy right now. Ive intentionally not looked at others top 50's/100's until mines is done. Tony may move up or down.

I dont have a list. But I think he'd definitely be on a pound-for-pound top 30 if I did one. Perhaps even top 20.

He's one of my favourites. I've seen a little bit of footage of him (v.Ross, v.Berg) and he impresses me. He's got an attractive style.

Would you rate him top 5 in any particular weight division ?

Folk call me that round here.

    Top ten pretty easy imo.
He has fought over 19 or so Hofer's and has won most of them.

Had classic wars with Ross, McLarin, and Dundee. He has a stronger resume than Ali or even Benny Leonard imo.
Just looking at his record, and you see hofers after hofers on there.

I've heard you say this before. I think you sercretly want one. :D

    Go on, have a go.

No. I don't think I would actually. Lightweight would be the one and I don't think he makes it...Does he appear on any of old-timer all time lists?

Good points. He might well be worthy of a place in the top 10 on closer inspection. He's so often overlooked these days.

How about in the specific weight divisions ? Where do you think he should place at lightweight, for example ?

Problem is, there are loads of fight films out there I haven't got. Knowing I'm ignorant about some of those fighters makes it difficult to write a list I find convincing.

I think so. I think I've read he was rated around 6 or 7 by Nat.

Here's the thing - it's never final. Mine is evolving all the time. I'm up to 55 that i'm pretty happy with now.

Well that's kind of my point - you asked about top 5's? I would see him in the mix for a top 10 spot at Lightweight, unquestionably.

True enough. I'll endeavour to begin working on one.
    :good

    Yeah, that sounds fair.
I think top 10 at lightweight. Probably somewhere between 15 and 30 on a pound-for-pound list. But that's open to revision, of course.

That would be the range. I personally would tighten it up to 17-28 based upon what I have.
