Just watched an episode of Taxi on YouTube called One Punch Banta. The guest star is then welterweight champion Carlos Palomino, who Tony gets to spar with. Very funny episode. I highly recommend it.

He used to spar with an Irish fighter named Paddy Maloney that had a brief but solid pro career. Paddy would beat the brakes off him in the early 80s.

If you watch the clip, notice when Palomino decks him in the locker room, Carlos actually doesn't pull his punch fast enough and strikes Danza (and you can see Carlos kind of react like 'oh, sorry' and then regroups quickly - because it was filmed before a live audience).

Danza was a good boxer. Nothing special. I've seen a tape or two of his fights. I remember an interview he had one time during a fight that Gil Clancy was calling, and Clancy told Danza not to be embarrassed of his boxing career and that he was a good fighter who had a good record.

Remember the Taxi episode when Tony got a piece of HW contender (actor) Ernie Hudson? Ernie told Tony he was being courted by "The Syndicate". Tony 'freaked' telling Ernie they were 'mob boys'. After Ernie KO'd a top contender the 'Syndicate' asked to visit the locker room. As it turned out "The Syndicate" was nothing more than a group of specialist doctors who simply wanted to get into boxing with their assets. I remember their introductions: "John Carson, pediactrics. Bob Parker, ears, nose and throat", etc. :) It still cracks me up thinking about that episode. LMAO

Yeah, I see him once. Not a bad fighter. Aggressive at times. Doesn't hit as hard as his record might make you think.

Like Many old school Italian fighters, they messed around with his last name changing it from Iadanza to Danza

Didn't the late great Joe Rein/John Garfield set you to rights on what bull**** this was?

This is flat-out rubbish,S (Seamus) Bob liked ta think of himself as a rough 'n tough brawler outta the slums of Chicago, and his assitants -- all ex-fighters and trainers -- allowed him to believe that.

When he had his two back-to-back hit tv series, during lunch he insisted on a boxing ring, a jump rope and all the bags just off set. Warner Brothers went along with it; he was generating a ton-a-money for the studio

When he sparred, his minions pumped him up, telling him what badass he was. They eased-up. They weren't about to kill the golden goose.

Bob was convinced if he was a little taller (he was about 5'7") he coulda been a champ. I'm convinced he'd have given up acting if he could have accomplished that, ta have walked into a gym and gotten the same respect as local greats, Tony Zale 'n Barney Ross.

If i had to hazard a guess how Bob would have done as a pro (He was already mid 30s) If he was matched carefully, he could have gotten some bloody wins as an undercard fighter.

In real bouts, Danza & Mario Lopez would have flattened him

I tend to believe this going by Tony Danza clearly pissing himself laughing from the photos of their exhibition bout you put such stock in and it being a fight that neither you or anyone else has ever seen (aside from some stills in the National Enquirer).

I thought this was put to bed years ago acknowledging that Danza was just a solid club fighter. The much smaller Conrad wishes he was that and was also Gabe Kaplans ***** on the track.

I know Tony and asked him specifically about Conrad an he laughed and said they were play sparing and he hit Conrad once and had him wobbling all over and stopped .. the photos are a gag. One guy was at least a former pro , the other an egomaniac actor ..

Danza seems like he had a pretty good life.

A question, why was he always playing a character named Tony. Was it a coincidence?

Second question, his opinion on Deniro and Stallone, two actors who think they can box.
