Freddie Roach - and many others - tried to get Oscar De La Hoya to throw his right more, but yet when it came to the crunch Oscar couldn't loosen up and throw it enough. And that's Freddie Roach, one of top trainers in the world.

It's not as if some of the stuff people are saying on here is especially profound and revelatory; they're things Farnell and Bellew are probably well aware of.

Alot of this is bollocks, fans should just enjoy different things that boxers bring to the table. Bellew can definately improve, same as every fighter, but you cant change how a fighter fights, thats a very individual and personal thing like someones personality cant be changed. I think alot of these posters arnt boxing fans or even appreciate the art, just attention seeking. I enjoyed the ovil fight, and win lose or draw you know bellew is gonna bring his thing to the table. and that knob wanting to 'have it' with professional prize fighters like bellew on the street, yeah alright mate, i'd love too see that posted up here:rofl

listen tony is a modest humble lad with his feet on the ground

and i'm sorry but if a minute of orville's orangutan windmilling can put tony on his back twice, then ten dozen clev power slaps are going to be fatal and that is the god's honest truth

Not responding to anything specific regarding Bellew, just about ODLH. I think OLDH was a natural lefty, so I think that might explain why he was essentially a one handed fighter a lot of the time, although I thought Mayweather managed to improve him slightly in that regard, probably not nearly enough though.

Being a great fighter, or having a specific style yourself, doesn't always translate to you being a good trainer, able to coach a (your)specific style imo.

Most fighters do things intuitively imo, not always consciously. I believe the intuitive nature is picked up through vast amounts of experience which is gained over years and years of fighting, which is why, IMO, a good fighter, doesn't always make a good coach, as some ex fighters cant break down what made them so effective cause they did what they did intuitively. Take Roger Mayweather, a much better fighter than Roach, with a more refined style to, but look who's the better trainer, now you would think with Roach's come foward aggresive style, and Roger's refined Boxing style, that he would make for the better trainer, but nope.

I like Bellew but on here he is kind of like the bully in the school playground that you dare'nt say anything bad about or everyone will attack you. For example, I started a thread asking whether Bellew could benefit from changing trainers. I didn't insult Bellew or his trainer, in fact I praised him. Bellew commentating ''Pointless thread''. Pointless? Why? Because you dont like it? Is every other thread regarding other trainer/fighter pointless? ie - all these Jeffries threads?

i actually think tony comes across very well on here. He is articulate and takes a far amount of **** from some real idiots on here. i prefer the way he comes across on here than he does on tv and in interviews but that is just me.
I value his input and love that some fighters come on here and talk to us. if dickheads post shite that will stop people like tony from posting.
keep up the posting tony! :thumbsup

Its strange how tony and his team seem to make up about a third of this thread now

Ive got nothing against tony but i dont think hes especially good atm. Exciting, well worth a watch but i worry how well hed do at higher levels of competition. Thats not to say he cant improve i just want him to do it quickly so he can represent england to his best. End of the day i aint gonna slam him for not being more technically proficient when hes the one getting smashed in the face with punches which would probably put me in a wheel chair. That said get better we need more top British boxers

Good point but Roger is a decent trainer. Floyd thinks hes the best. Roach had 5 years of training with Eddie Futch as his assistant so that would have done him the world of good.
