I believe so too. But a lot of people here will say he was a wide-punching over-reaching hay maker, swinging for the fences. If I'm not mistaken there's a significant overlap between them and the group who think Galento would be easy meat for any "modern heavyweight".
Galento would be dangerous for anyone who did not respect his power. That's why I made the Galento vPatterson thread ,Floyd had a mountain of skills that Tony could only dream about, but if the "fat man" got home with that hook Floyd would be hitting the canvas, and," all bets would be off". Galento's mindset was, I'm going to tag you at some point, and he had the b*lls and chin to take the incoming, waiting for his chance to land with his own big gun.
I can't help but to think how Joe Gans of Kid Herman bout, whom Louis resembles here, would have done much better vs someone like Galento.
Yeah, it's a shame more of his fights aren't on film. He knocked out some stylish boxers along the way and it's always interesting to see a crude short slugger take out a 'superior boxer' with sheer power and bloody-mindedness.
You're the sort of person who'd get some poor schmuck repeatedly KOed after falling for your pie in the sky bullsh!t about 'old time skills' and forgotten techniques. If you can look at Tony Galento and compare him not only favourably with the like of David Tua but consider him his superior in technique and punching power then you, my friend, are a complete fcuking momo.
A. You don't teach someone to be like Galento. Galento resisted teaching. B. I don't teach anyone, I'm not a trainer. So your dumb brain has already arrived at one stupid preconceived notion. C. I never said he did either of those things. D. You didn't even address the post you quoted. You made a good first impression on me as a dumb**** *******. Go **** yourself.
Sometimes, for fighters of Galento's type, learning the correct ways actually reduce their effectiveness. He was what he was. Not a great fighter. Not a boxer. But, for all his flaws, if I was managing a talented fighter I wouldn't necessarily want to put them in with him.
