What do you guys make of Shavers record?

He had some obscure losses as well.

At the same time, he also knocked down the champ, like Galento.

The RING magazine rankings are not necessarily indicative of who the best fighters in the world were anyway.
The rankings threw up some incredibly mystifying placings.

At the end of 1938 Len Harvey is rated #6 at heavyweight but was never deserving of such a rating in the heavyweight division.

I'm not sure why people here spend so much time on the RING ratings. They are interesting for historical reasons but they don't actually show us a true picture of who were the quality fighters.

Let's be honest, if you could get the ear of the man in the RING magazine's office in New York you could probably get your fighter rated.

Yes, it does. You are trying to compare ranked contenders across the two eras. You say that Nova was the best victory between the two of them because he was a #1 ranked contender. Well, in Tua's era that same #1 guy would be Lewis or Holyfield

Can you not see the difference?

This statement just seems inherently contradictory unless you are talking about sanctioning body rankings. I'm talking about Ring rating.

Paychek beat an Al Ettore on a losing streak and standing on his very last legs. Ettore would fight only once more and get KO'd, yes KNOCKED OUT, by Maxie Rosenblum. Paychek also beat a King Levinsky who had only won 3 of his previous 10 fights and would never win again.

Those are Paychek's "name victories"... and you want to discredit Rahman for beating a 23-1 Obed Sullivan to get his ranking?
