The version of the Nova fight would have been thrown out by any referee who had b*lls!

Galento was permitted to thumb Nova's right eye until it reached a terrible condition. Finally, Nova went down in the 14th round after being fouled for the last time.
"One of the most disgraceful fights staged since the days of the barroom brawls. Referee George Blake . . . would have retained his reputation as a great referee had he disqualified Galento.

If that is his best win he is in deep sh*t here.

Here are the guys who Galento did not beat.

    It's a loooooooong list.
    Godoyx2
    Mader33-19-4
    Gainer ltko
    Perroni
    Gallagher 36-19-5
    Tow 20-15-2
    Winston39-21-3
    Walker29-3-2
    Gagnon49-26-1
    Schaaf
    Brown 12-11-3
    Risko 48-31-6
    Mays 26-9-0
    Dorval 17-4-4
    Cavalier
    Gorman 32-13-4
    Friedman23-20-5
    Clisby39-17-14
    Mays18-6-0
    Lawless 1-2-0
    Alberry 11-4-1

22 Losses, 14 of them to journeymen and only 4 of the remainder have any pretensions to world class.

Galento would not have been a credible contender in the the 70's 80's 90's or early 2000's

You looked at this fight? I haven't been able to find footage. How were you able to determine that he was losing anyway if he was being thumbed badly throughout?

EDIT: For what it's worth, I found it interesting that in this interview, Nova suggests that his corner should have stopped the fight.

Hard to imagine him talking this way if he thought he mainly lost because of foul play but who knows?

Just curious-- how high do you see Galento ranked in say '85, '91, or 2016?

Such BS, as usual. Tua wins by KO within half-round. Galento was a 1930s copy of Butterbean, nothing more.

David Tua is a popular man here. If the fight happened when both were drunk in a bar, I might pick Galento. In the ring, Tua.

He was nothing like Butterbean. Butterbean was a 320 pound 4-round fighter.
    Galento was a decent contender.

    He was stopped 6 times,retired at 34.

Tua was never stopped and he fought until he was a few days off of 41.
