it'd be like watching two guys fight in the first round of a local Toughman Contest. Two guys who would not make it to the finals...
Corbett by decision. If he could go 23 rds with Jeffries when past his best ,he would have no trouble outboxing the ponderous Galento.
Impossible to say with any confidence due to the paucity of footage, but my gut tells me if a fat Sullivan couldn't do it a fat Galento probably couldn't. Galento probably can't catch Corbett -who is supposed to have been extremely fleet of foot- and winds up with a broken nose and swollen face. By the way although there's very little if any authentic fight footage of Corbett, there are extensive voice recordings, for those who didn't know. He doesn't sound at all like I expected. (He sounds a lot like my grandpa.)
If Corbett had to pick a top 10 heavyweight condenter from history to fight. YOu would have to say that Galento would probably be one of the perfect picks from a stylistic view. If the eras have rough parity, it is pretty much impossible to see Galento winning on anything but Corbett getting slack and dropping his guard. This rarely if ever happened.
Seeing that Corbett had close to a shut out going against Jeffries for 10-12 rounds I can't see any way Tony would out point him. Galento had that weird style and he had punch in that left hook so a ko win for him wouldn't overly surprise me, but my cash would be on Jim.
I think Corbett should be favoured pretty clearly. He could punch and move all day and all night againt Galento. Horrible match up for Galento.
