Tony Galento vs David Tua

Yeah but Tua fought in glossy colour & was called by commentators we grew up with & whose voices give us comfort. That has to count for something.

 

Galento has my respect, and I'm still on the hunt for the final man to possess the "Lineal Galento Belt", but I just like making these horrid jokes.

I read your post prior to posting mine, Two ton isn't being dismissed and I don't think Tua was all that good. Quite frankly he was one of the worst world level "boxers" from the 90s to the present. What he was though was a tank with handspeed, power and chin. Those attributes allowed him to excel whereas if all he had to fallback on was skill he'd be forgotten.

There's nothing in Tua's career that makes me believe he loses to a 5'8 240 lb because he never lost to anyone with anything close to those type of dimensions. He lost to the giants (other than Chris Byrd who honestly also would be a giant vs. Galento). Galento had the dimensions of an obese WW so yeah, I don't believe he'd go more than a round vs. one of the top 5 hitters from the 90s to the present.

 

I never saw Tua excel, personally. When was this?

 

He excelled when you'd put him in the ring with someone untalented or glass chinned.

 

In over a hundred fights, Galento was not once put away inside the first round.
