The only person Tua beat who was world level at the time was Rahman, and the circumstances of the win are not exactly uncontroversial.

Galento's win over Nova is better than anything that Tua ever accomplished.
    Different question entirely.

My interpretation is that Galento was an overachiever, and Tua was an underachiever.

Tua was superior to Two ton in every way imaginable. There is no comparison at all, that's silly.

But I digress: Moorer would dispatch Galento, tko win, not UD win

For the record, I do no not think it a forgone conclusion, that Tua would have beaten a prime Moorer.

To be fair to Moorer he wasn’t in good mental or physical shape after his three year layoff and he had a bad drinking problem. I doubt Tua would’ve stopped a prime Moorer in one round. Moorer just wasn’t an elite fighter anymore and took the fight for a payday.

That said aggressive fighters that could muscle him and didn’t give him space were always a challenge for him, so a fight between a prime Moorer and prime Galento could go either way.

However if a prime Galento is facing the comeback Moorer that Tua faced I don’t see Moorer lasting very long.

I don’t know if “ kills “ is the word I’d use but I can certainly see how Tua would be a bigger problem for certain fighters than Galento would

I remember reading somewhere that Jack Dempsey who briefly managed Galento and thought Two Ton had a lot of raw talent, said about Tony, that if he trained properly, lost weight and learned to box he could become world champion one day.
Then later on in their working relationship, old Jack proceeded to batter Galento black and blue in a sparring session as his frustration with Tony’s bad behaviour, unwillingness to listen and his lack of effort, boiled over big time. If Tony had learned to box as Jack had advised, he might have managed to avoid all those power punches that Jack landed on his big head!

Anyway back to the question. Moorer would be favourite but it’s possible that Galento could stop him…but only if he learned to box first haha!

*EDIT. I don’t know know how true the Dempsey battering Galento story is. But it did make me laugh, true or not!

I will agree that Tua underachieved but I disagree that Rahman was the only world level fighter he beat. Ruiz, Maskav, Iron, Oquendo were not old or shop worn when he beat them. All were outstanding amateur fighters that were dangerous opponents.

I just don't get how any of you guys can watch Galento and say he was better or even equal to Tua. I'm not even a Tua fan but he was miles better and more dangerous.

If all that you knew about them was what each of them had got, you would probably conclude that Galento would never be the #1 Ring magazine contender, and that Tua would almost certainly be at least a belt holder at some point.

In that respect you are right.

Now here are the end of year ratings for 1939.

    1939
    Joe Louis, Champion

    1. Tony Galento
    2. Bob Pastor
    3. Lou Nova
    4. Tommy Farr
    5. Max Schmeling
    6. Johnny Paychek
    7. Red Burman
    8. Gunnar Barlund
    9. Roscoe Toles
    10. Lee Savold
As you can see Galento is #1, and the four people ranked beneath him are all better fighters.

Nor I. But it’s a foregone conclusion Tua would’ve smashed Galento.

We are getting into the same discussion that always happens when guys from era's so far apart are compared.

As much as I respect and enjoy watching Joe Louis fight, his competition from that era was nowhere near the level of 90's era. I'm sure you disagree so no point of us going down that rabbit hole. Sorry but I simply don't think much of Galento at all in comparison.
