Tony Jeffries - Hands are my Achilles Heel

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by Sogoplayboy, May 15, 2012.

  1. Probably the most disapointing start to a promising career by a British fighter in many, many years.

He has the ability but something has gone seriously wrong.

I think that in a roundabout way the article is saying that Jeffries has chucked it in.

I agree, at this stage of his career saying that he is enjoying what he is doing now and will see how the boxing goes - doesn't feel like we'll see him back in the ring, unless he does corner work.

I feel a bit sorry for Jeffries. I honestly think he's just collapsed under the weight of expectation. It was probably a lot different in the amateurs when he could just get on with his boxing, away from the pressures.

I guess some can handle it and others can't.

Jeffries has been absolutely **** since turning pro. He has been unlucky with cuts and other injuries, but he's clearly not going anywhere and I don't think it'd be any different if he wasn't unlucky. He's just not good enough.

I don't dislike him or anything though. He seems like he wants to be a great fighter but he isn't and never will be. It's sad to see someone fall so short of their dreams.

Am I right in saying after his first fight and maybe his second most on here had him down as the best coming in from the Olympics? I remember thinking he had a very good jab early on. Not just throwing it out to set something up but a real powerful one that was going through defences easily. He done a complete U-turn though and ended up being nothing more than going in looking for the one punch to get him back out.

Like Jack says terrible luck with cuts and injuries but he wasn't going anywhere fast especially after some of his last showings. Didn't seem to take criticism to well either which there was plenty of on the forums after some of his fights.
