Drew 5-5 after four rounds with Cuba's Eleider Alvarez, but won on countback.

Some real bad scoring in this one, both guys landed multiple clean body shots and jabs that didn't get anything. Should've been a much higher aggregate score.

And I think it was a little fortunate for Jeffries to get through. 90% of the Cuban's fightplan was to go right-right-right-right-right-right-right and Jefferies just kept on leaning in too much and getting clipped. Come the last round he even looked a little gunshy from them and didn't want to engage. His jab got him out of jail but he didn't use it enough.

Good win on paper but I'd hope for a better, more purposeful showing in the next round.

A teriffic result anyway you look at it. I favoured the Cuban just. Never the less there are no bad Cubans, well done Jefries

You're right, he was the Columbia Pan-American champ, not Cuban...my mistake, thinking of the Saunders fighter.

I guess it's an easy mistake to make given the Colombian is a black guy with a Spanish name.

Nah, no excuses for me...I was in a rush and didn't check properly. I could've just looked at his flag but didn't. Well never mind.

Tony looked pretty decent out there. Hopefully he can get a win in the next round and pull off a medal.

Sad for BJ but he was never really a medal hope or one that would go far.

..and he doesn't have to face the woeful Chinese light heavy who just got a disgraceful gift against the Russian until the final. If the Chinese got the decision in that fight I can't see anyone beating him. :-(
