Tony Jeffries - When will he have his break out fight?

He fights like a moron. He's not the most talented in the world thats for sure but he was good enough to pick up a medal, but he doesn't even remotely consider employing those skills as a pro. He seems to think because he has some power, and now that there are no headguards and small gloves he can just fight like a bar room brawler. I don't see any improvement or sense in his fighting, his trainers are a joke to accept this.

 

Leaving Gallagher was a big mistake - not sure what went on, maybe he got a bit homesick or something :think

Being away from his hometown is the best thing for his boxing career, where he can focus 100%.

The way he's going he's heading for a KO loss at the hands of the first half decent opponent he faces, that's before fighting the likes of Groves and DeGale in the future - dare I say he wouldn't see the end of round 2 against either at the minute.

 

Isn't he with Bobby Rimmer, who lets be honest is a **** coach.

 

Sick to death with these unmatched prospect fights, they learn NOTHING in them! Why do these promoters and managers wish to wrap these 'warriors' in cotton wool is beyond me. We fans come to watch a competitive fight! So you lose early in your career... if you learn from it, it will be priceless to them. Yet they take on push overs and then step up and...

 

Me too mate but to the general public it is all about the undefeated record, that sells way more than say 24 wins 4 loses i'm affraid.

 

I'm sure I remember Jeffries saying that he left because Gallagher couldn't give him enough one-on-one time.

Jeffries has decent power and a very good jab, but if he doesn't sort that woeful defence of his out sharpish then he will get sparked by the first half decent opponent he faces.

 

I seem to be in the minority of not rating Jeffries at all.

There's plenty of heart in his performances but they've been littered with mistakes and he's struggled against some of these so called 'pushovers'.

Like someone has already said, he needs a few fights away from Sunderland, so he can concentrate 100% on boxing, rather than putting on a show for his home fans.

 

he coulden't cut it in galaghers gym, a big tall amateur wasd doing him in sparring, galagher lets them spar hard, so if somebodys got your number in the gym, its going to be hard every sesion.

portside, nice of you to ask, . i will say a little more though and that is that sparring isent fighting, and im not questioning jeffries hart, but what ive said is right , he was having it hard, and gallaghers gym isent full of tall amateurs, so do some of your own research,.:good

 

i agree he needs to fight away from sunderland.The problem is maloney is just going to keep putting him on there cos he knows he sells tickets,so hes gonna have to learn to deal with it.

 

He won't - he's rubbish imo.

 

i think we are under estimating Jeffries. They must be something about him if he was able to get on the squad and get a medal. I would say give him time. He does have his moment and clearly he is a big puncher.

 

If he lets Banbula into the fight at the start then there's a fair chance that he won't.

 

Id love to see jeffries do well comes across as a top bloke,i think his power is the problem he's going in just wanting to blow ppl away and not using his skills.
