Both champions at the weight. Roger came through just ahead of Lopez. I'm piggy backing off the Chacon/Roger matchup.
Tony Lopez was a protege of Bobby Chacon. He sparred many rounds with Bobby in Sacramento he picked up some of Bobby's game. Tony's right hand was similar to Bobby's his delivery.

Ofcourse Mayweather has range and boxing skills along with power. I'm certain if Lopez can hurt Roger if he can get past that reach.

    Thoughts?

Tony the tiger was good, he put Sacramento CA on the map. Around that time though Roger was kicking ass, I think Lopez would have his moments but I see Roger outboxing him for most of the fight winning a decision. A late stoppage wouldn't be out of the question either.

You have to understand that Roger's right-hand was the equivalent of a Thomas Hearns right-hand in the lighter weights.
In the Chavez fight even though he got Roger in 2 Mayweather did land that right-hand and he did buckle Chavez for a second.
Mayweather beat Mario Martinez who was a hell of a boxer and he out boxed Tony Baltazar only to get robbed.
Mayweather could be caught and hurt at times but I think he is entirely too fast for Tony and he hit harder then Tony.
Tony is going to have to press this fight as he is not going to outbox Roger so he is going to eventually get caught.

Sacramento was quite the fight town in the 1970s and into the ‘80s a bit. I think Tony became the best of the lot to come up there but Pete Ranzany was a big draw before him and there were a few others in between who kept it going — Tino Hoffman and Sal Lopez, I think, were main eventers there.

Yea Sal was Tony's older brother. I believe a detached retina ended his boxing career. Locals say that Sal was more than talented than Tony, a better athlete.

I can't argue with this. Mayweather has the skillset and firepower to bust Tony up, blunt his attack.

If Tony can't pass the chin check from Roger's skills and talents, you'll see a mountain crumble tonight, but if he survives and managed to land a good shot on Roger.....

    AND THE NEW.....

Well, today I learned … it had never occurred to me (although it should have, I guess) that Sal and Tony were related.

    Thanks for expanding my knowledge.

Yep, Sacramento was a helluva fight town for like a decade and a half, maybe more.
