saw this a week back, very impressed with Tony. he would have smashed Choc to pieces. Oh yeah, Carlos wasnt bad either.
Unbelievably this is one of Monzon's fights I do not hold in my collection...even though its the most important one of his defenses from an Australian perspective. Tony gave a great performance against probably the greatest middleweight ever...showed he was one of our best without a doubt.
Honestly Gonz cant split em. Both were at their peak are just about the best and well rounded middleweights I have seen on film...Only someone like Roy Jones can match these from what Ive seen because of the stylistic issues he would give them. I guess Ive always leant towards Monzon...I think his outside ability would see him dictate the fights a little better for more rounds..I think its one of those fights where there would be highly competitive round after highly competitive round and it may end with pretty clear discrepencies in the scores.
its been said tony fought his best fight the day (or days) before the actual fight. aparently mundine sparred the two top middleweights from argentina over some ten rounds in a public display. pundits say tony couldnt have recovered in such a short time.. anyone else heard this? .
I've never heard that. However have heard that Monzon's supporters kept him up all night. That's flat our ridiculous if true.
I'm not sure its hindsight, who was running their training camp? Surely they must accept responsibility to have allowed it to happen this way. It smacks to me of re-writing history.
What was he thinking....if that is accurate? Was there no concern about injury...it would seem totally implausible to think any boxer with a decent team would be allowed to box sparring sessions at all within a week from a title shot. And if it did happen it would be hard to believe a trainer could stand back and watch it unfold without telling every **** to **** off and grabbing his lad and leaving.
