Said his body broke down and won't attempt any other comeback.

Very underrated, tricky and awkward southpaw who lasted 17 rounds with Prime Klitschko and scored back-to-back big upsets in the autumn of his career, including 2 KTFO's of David Price and 2 wins against Odlanier Solis.

He fought for the last time 2 years ago, and lost by KO against Luis Ortiz.

He is mostly known by the British crowd with his post-fight interview of the Price fight, watch it here again:

That comment about his wife was just comedy gold. As was the awkward reaction of the interviewer.

Or when they asked him about drug testing and he said: they ain't gonna find nothing but fried chicken in there!

    :risas3:
Happy retirement Tony, hell of a career for a late starter.

Lol I came in to post that interview. Happy retirement champ.

My favourite moment was when he knocked out Price and then shouted to the fans “I told you not to fall for the tricks!”

Pricey should have used krav maga and wrestling tactics to beat Thompson like Klitschko did. :naughty2:

Was always a fan. Dude could box, shame Wlad had to smack him around but 2012 was certainly a year of no hope contenders and of them El Tigro was my favorite fight.

I've never understood boxing commentators apologising for bad language when it's after the watershed and we're watching two guys knock the **** out of each other. It's highly unlikely anyone watching is going to be offended and if they are, they should have a word with themselves. Tony is a great character and that interview was funny as hell. He was a great gatekeeper as David Price discovered... Hope he has earned enough to enjoy his retirement and not be tempted back. Thompson/Price 3 anyone?

He is wise enough not to come back. He had also knee surgery in 2017. I still back the poor version of him who fought against Ortiz over any version of David Price to be honest..

...poor Mrs. T better find herself a part-time job or hobby (knitting circle? Rock climbing?) or she's looking at 7 days a week getting those hips broke throughout her golden years. :ohno

Thompson started boxing late and still had a damn good career. Happy he has the money to retire, thanks for the fun fights champ!!!

I was hoping for a Briggs-Thompson retirement fight but not enough money to put the fight together

That's it, in a nutshell, good fighter Thompson, even if awkward on the eye. That interviews quality too !

A man that very likely would have shined if not for being in the shadow of an ATG on a ten year long smashing spree. Thompson was certainly one of the most avoided heavyweights of the past 20+ years, with almost no big fights coming together after years and years in the sport, until the very winter of his career where the offers to fight this awkward, 6'5 super heavyweight southpaw with skills suddenly started to pour in once Tony was coming up on 40. It's amazing how so many top heavyweight talents of this era, almost all of them for several years now, have all wanted the name of the Tiger on their resume, now that he doesn't have half the ability he once did.

RIP Tony. You certainly earned it.
