Yup, this fight is pretty much on. http://www.examiner.com/article/tony-thompson-and-kubrat-pulev-to-meet-ibf-title-eliminator Good to see the heavyweight division bringing some good fights this year.
WOW! Right around the corner. I picked Pulev by decision but for a rooting interest, I am supporting Thompson. Although I would rather see Wlad face Pulev than stop Thompson for a third time. Talk about a strange dicotomy(sp) for this one.
I'm conflicted, too. Nothing against Pulev, I'm just a bigger fan of Thompson. The problem is, Thompson-Wlad III doesn't really make sense for anyone. Facing Pulev adds more to Wlad's resume at this point and is a more interesting fight because we've already seen what Thompson brings to the table vs Wlad twice. No need to see him get knocked out a third time. Even Tony doesn't want a third Wlad fight, but it would've taken too much time to become Vitali's WBC mandatory. And that's one thing Tony doesn't have too much of, boxing wise.
If Tony becomes mandatory again he will get another guaranteed $1-$2 million payday as a mandatory challenger. He knows he can't possibly beat Wlad, but to secure another big purse is probably what makes it worthwhile to him.
Thompson has gone to another level since he took a dive against Wlad. But lets be honest Pulev has not fought anyone since he went pro. Thompson will expose Pulev and show us how weak the Klitschko era is.
Go Tiger! You can do this! I really hope he can pull it off and get another career high payday against Wlad, so he can fund all the wheelchairs Mrs Thompson might need
HEY CHEF---- why doesn't Wlad have the inside uppercut ?????? if he could fight inside INSTEAD OF CLINCHING.........he would have WAY more boxing fans !!!! Maybe make him watch some Lennox videos
Wilder refused to fight Thompson. Thompson would knock Wilder out, no doubt about that. Pulev is a difficult fight for Thompson, but not as difficult as it was against Vlad. Vlad has knocked him out two times.............
