This seems like an intriguing matchup. I know that it isn't a match between two top flight heavyweights, but I do think that it could be entertaining. Will Scott try to utilize the style of jabbing and moving which he against the shorter Glazkov? Scott is a guy who may be a fringe contender and we already saw him crumble against guys like Chisora, and then the obvious dive against Wilder, but he does have good movement, good jab, technique, years of experience, etc. His chin is a question mark as well as his will to fight and win. The fact that it took him 13 years into his career before he began fighting anyone with a pulse should tell us something. Thompason on the other hand, seems tough and willing to fight and trade with all comers. He has a slower more methodical style I feel. I would be interested in seeing whether he will be willing to maintain a high energy and strategic approach to get Scott into a position where he's stationary and upright, vulnerable to his punches. What do you think?
Maybe, but I don't mind that honestly. It took me awhile but I learned to enjoy the more strategic elements of heavyweight boxing. This isn't going to be a Larry Holmes "how to box and jab" showcase though haha. A bit lower level.
It might be a boring fight due to their styles, but I'm curious to see what's left of TT ambition. If he goes past Malik, he should get a shot at Wilder.
You know what, I wouldn't have a problem with that matchup. Thompson may be washed up, or his ambition lagging, emphasis on may, but it's hard to fault him for his resume and accomplishments. He's been in tough for years.
If TT beats Scott, it doesn't really raise his stock. Though, I wouldn't be against TT getting an eliminator fight afterwards if he comes through. On the other hand, if Malik can't win this, he needs to hang it up.
You almost have to question the heart of Scott at this point. He seems to give up in matches such as Chisora and Wilder, and also the fact that he didn't step up his competition for almost 13 years into his boxing career. It's a shame, because like Guinn he has talent but just doesn't frequently put it all together in the ring. At least that's how I see him.
I'm really surprised that Wilder hasn't picked him yet. TT would be an ideal opponent at this stage. Experienced yet clearly past prime. Maybe after his win against Scott they can do it if DW wants January fight before mandatory fight with Povetkin?
He's probably watching this match and waiting to call up Thompson after the fight "Hey yo, I'll give $25 K if you drop like I shot you like Malik...let's pull this scam yo."
I thought Thompson was banned for being a dirty drugs cheat? if not, then it's a drugs cheat vs a diver. On balance, Thompson would pressure Scott into quitting again
