    Here's what Thompson said:

“I did fail a drugs test but everybody knows what I failed it for – high blood pressure medicine.

“How could it be wrongdoing? I’m taking it for what the doctor prescribed it for. I have high blood pressure, I have for the last 15 years.”

It can be a masking agent, but that doesn't mean the assumption ought to be that it necessarily always is any time someone uses it considering the many legit purposes it also serves.

That's like saying that PVC tubing can be made into pipe bombs, so anyone buying it at Home Depot should be arrested in the checkout line.

No surprise. I bet most top level athletes in most sports use.

Actually many people here box. The average club fighter couldn't afford regular PED use even if they were so inclined, so there goes your theory.

Sorry, IB, but this makes you sound stupid for obvious reasons.

    This is true.

But world class athletes? He was 100% correct and then some.

It would be naïve to assume that a lot of top level athletes in most sports use, but I think one errs too far on the other side of cynicism propter se to say "most".

So an old man can't take blood pressure medication that contains a diuretic sometimes used to mask PED use without being labeled a PED cheat? :huh

Questioning the rush to vilify said old man when all we know is that he knowingly took a diuretic and hasn't denied it and has a seemingly perfectly sound reason, is stupid?

People who whine and constantly grandstand over PED's sould like suck little b.i.t.c.h.e.s who cannot break an agg in a food fight.

The only time I rant on this issue is when inequality is involved. Like Mayweather and RJJ either not getting tested or having their positive samples withheld, while their opponents are subjected to the tightest scrutiny possible.

if that's the case what he did was at the very least insanely irresponsible and could easily be seen as blatant cheating to cover up other substances

Frankie Sheehan got a 2 year ban from rugby union after traces of salbutamol was found during a drugs test. it was from his inhaler as his a registered asthmatic but forgot to fill out the needed paperwork

what Thompson did was a the very least completely irresponsible and at worst blatant cheating

Yes. Because he knew it was banned and if he didn't know, then he may be less of a blatant cheater but even more of an idiot. Either way, he popped for a banned substance. And it is a PED if it's a diuretic or masking agent, period. Otherwise everybody who ever popped for elevated levels of anything (what most people "test positive" for) just "ate contaminated meat" and everything is totally cool and chill.

he never disclosed it before testing. that is extremely irresponsible and for a high level athlete completely stupid. its looks dodgy not disclosing it in the first place

Well actually, it simply being a "masking agent" doesn't make it a PED
It just means it may be used to hide the use of a PED
