Tubbs used to be a good boxer, just did not have power.............

 

on a sidenote...

I always mix that guy up with Tony "TNT" Tucker from the same period.
Only Tucker was the better of the two imo.

And neither had much "TNT" either.

 

Yup. Neither could punch worth a lick.

 

Tucker had 48 ko's from 66 wins, he did have good power

I always liked Tony Tubbs. I use to watch him as a kid back on Tuesday Night Fights. I won't knock his hussle.

His KO % was 72. This compares well to Mercer's of 60 %.You can read too much into this statistics(maybe Mercer faced tougher competition/fought on longer past his prime).But it's interesting to note-especially since Mercer was considered such a dangerous puncher.

You have to remember power doesn't work by itself.It has to go with a little boxing craft and nous and all-round technical ability.
