And if Tubbs had to fight Wilder in his prime, he'd never have won a single title fight. You just refuse to name when Wilder's prime was, and just bring up Wilder losing on points to Parker when he was 38. Because a prime Wilder squashes Tubbs. Tubbs would have just been another one of Wilder's bad defenses to you guys. Tubbs wasn't even as qualified for a title shot as most of Wilder's challengers, who you ridicule. Tubbs wasn't some beast. Hell, Witherspoon and Tubbs were both KOed in one round (Tubbs multiple times) by people who never should've beaten them like that. And Witherspoon was getting outpointed by people like Bigfoot Martin when he was 34. And you mock a 38-year-old shot Wilder losing on points to Parker. Parker certainly wasn't Bigfoot Martin. The Eighties belt holders were no better than the guys Wilder wiped out. They were just passing a belt around to each other because they had one to pass around and no one was any better than anyone else. That's why actual top fighters, like Holmes, Tyson, and Wilder were able to put together long reigns. Because they were better. Mark Wills would've been champ, too, if he was around to fight Page that night. Marvis Frazier would've been champ if he'd been around to fight Tubbs and Smith. Page wasn't any better than Mark Wills. That was proven twice. Wills knocked out Page when Greg was 28. And then did it again. They were very beatable, which is why they all took turns beating each other.
Debatable but Wilder is certainly not coming out with a winning record vs Tyson, Bowe, Witherspoon. Wilder's prime is probably stopping Ortiz or getting gift draw vs Fury. Could Wilder win ? yes absolutely but squash ? no i don't agree. Not at all he'd be considerably better than Molina, Arreola, Szpilka, Duhaupas, Breazeale. Ortiz was a good win credit for that win. Credit for also fighting Fury aswell but it was a gift draw and most people believe Wilder should be 0-3 vs Fury. He'd be better than Molina, Arreola, Szpilka, Duhaupas, Breazeale, that's for certain. I never said Tubbs was some beast but he did have incredibly quick hands, good movement, and was a good boxer. And he would still be a better opponent than 98 percent of Wilder's best wins. Witherspoon beat Bruno, Page, Tubbs, Bonecrusher, Tillis, Snipes, Williams, Gonzalez, came close to beating a very good version of an ATG in Holmes, most people believe he beat Mercer, and he was also a top 10 ranked Heavyweight for 12 years over 2 different decades. They clearly were though. Molina, Arreola, Szpilka, Duhaupas, Breazeale. I would favour Thomas, Tubbs, Tucker, Weaver, Berbick, over the opponents above any day of the week.
The thread is PRIME TUBBS vs PRIME WILDER. You seem to want to make it about Wilder beating Holmes or Tyson. That's not this thread. You won't even say when Wilder's prime was. You picked Tubbs' win over Page as his PRIME moment. What's Wilder's prime when he supposedly loses to Tubbs? His prime sure as hell wasn't the Parker fight. When was Wilder's prime and does THAT Tubbs (vs Page) beat THAT Wilder? Hell no. Because Wilder no doubt left that opponent on the deck. And everyone sees Tubbs going the same route. Tubbs wasn't any better than the guys Wilder beat in title defenses. He just wasn't. Look at his record when he challenged Page. He was 20-0. 13 of his opponents had losing records. Wilder never defended against anyone that inexperienced. Even Breazeale had better qualifications. In 20 fights, 18 of his opponents had winning records. And Breazeale would've been a champ, too, if you threw him in with Page and Tubbs and all that mess. This is getting tired. I know you guys despise Wilder. But this is stupid. I'd believe Tony Tubbs sprouted wings and flew out of the ring before I could see him beating Deontay Wilder. I saw Tubbs lose to too many garbage fighters in my life to buy that. Congratulations, though. You sucked me into another Wilder thread. I swore off of them. But that's enough. Have a good weekend. This content is protected
Yes and you're the one bringing up Tubbs's losses in the 90s which is not his prime. Because you keep bringing up Tubbs's losses in the 80s without context. I already told you he was facing Witherspoon and a prime Tyson who is one of the best H2H fighters of all time in his prime. The level of competition has to be taken into account. Had Wilder fought the same opponents Tubbs did in his first 3 losses to Witherspoon, Tyson, Bowe, more than likely Wilder loses all 3. I've already told you when Wilder's prime was Fury 1, Ortiz 1, which would be 2018 as those were his best performances over notable opposition. Tubbs's prime was 1985 when he was still in shape below 230 pounds convincingly outpointing Page, Boncrusher. I've already said Wilder could knockout Tubbs as i think Tubbs is a bit chinny. But Tubbs also has the boxing skills to outbox Wilder but it would be a minefield for Tubbs. Who would i favour ? maybe Wilder because it's going to be hard for Tubbs to avoid Wilder's bombs for 12 rounds. And in Wilder's prime he pretty much knocked everyone down who he ever faced. But it's not a forgone conclusion simply because Tubbs would be a better opponent than pretty much most of Wilder's best wins. He was though Tubbs is certainly better than Molina, Arreola, Szpilka, Duhaupas, Breazeale, i don't think you would find many boxing fans who would rate any of those fighters above Tubbs. I don't despise Wilder at all i think he overachieved significantly good luck to him.
In other breaking news the crack in my bedroom wall gives me visions of the grand canyon. Oh it's magnificent thru my eyes
Hilarious. I just did word search ... and none of that was included. Oh well. Another boxing phrase goes away, thanks to pervs. Thanks for the clarification. Have a good weekend. I'm leaving town. I'll have to catch up on who won all the fights this weekend on Sunday night. In the US it means: "Knocked him off" is a slang phrase that primarily means to kill someone. It can also mean to steal something or to stop doing something. Here's a breakdown of the different meanings: 1. To kill: This is the most common meaning of "knock someone off," and it implies a deliberate act of murder. For example, "He hired a hitman to knock off his business rival," according to the Cambridge Dictionary. 2. To steal: "Knock off" can also mean to steal something, often something of value. For example, "The gang knocked off a gas station," according to Collins Dictionary. 3. To stop doing something: In this sense, "knock off" can be a command to cease an activity, especially something annoying. For example, "Knock it off, I'm trying to concentrate," according to Cambridge Dictionary. 4. To finish something: "Knock off" can also mean to finish or complete something, often work or a task. For example, "She can knock off a novel in a couple of weeks," according to Quora. 5. To remove something: In some contexts, "knock off" can mean to remove something, such as a part from a larger object. For example, "One of the trade mirrors on the truck got knocked off," according to Quora.
Watched the video and in hindsight the phrase used is different and has a widely sexual connutation. "Beating someone off" implies fellatio in most of the Western world. Not just the UK. The context in which the woman used the phrase made it sound worse for a lot of unrelated reasons related to Hollywood. She was innocently saying that he did sexual favors to get his role. And it was hillarious. Good news is the phrase "knock it off" is safe from the perverts.
Yeah, I watched the clip. But it didn't have anything to do with the quote of mine he brought up. Anyway ...
In the UK, to knock someone off, means the same thing as to beat someone off does in the US. Hence the light hearted reference to the video. Please feel most welcome to continue using the term in a boxing context, it will raise a chuckle amongst our British posters, and it's nice to make people laugh. Thank you, have a nice weekend too.
