A Tony Tucker-Carl Williams matchup should've been made around the 1985-1986 time period. That would've been a great way to judge how good Tony was at that time.
Williams vs Tucker in 85-86 is a great call. Tony Tucker and Carl Williams had a lot in common. I think i would lean towards Tucker in that matchup based on his superior chin. But, both were good boxers. Both could most likely outbox either Klitschko today. Tucker would probably stop Wlad and win a UD against Vitali.
Tucker woz obviously e superior faiter 2 Williams . Wot ken 1 ask from Tucker ? de men stopt Douglas (not eny wors dan Williams) end izili lasted vs Tyson wail injurd , whereas Williams menejd 2 get stopt bay Mike Weaver .
It's difficult to imagine why talented fighters like Tucker and Carl WIlliams did not become truly great fighters because there was a point early on where both looked destined to become cant miss superstars. A combination of managerial problems, injury, politics and plain old bad timing can scupper the best laid plans. In the case of Tucker he became quite avoided at the unbeaten stage of his career, once he made his name after the Tyson showing things kind of petered out for him in much the way they did for WIlliams after Holmes. One worthless fight in two years between 1987 and 1990 did not help then only two decent opponents he barely scraped past with SDs out of 13 outings between Tyson in 87 and Lewis in 1993 and its little wonder his career lost momentum. He could have been great.
George Foreman did avoid Tony Tucker; he fought Axel Schultz instead. Tucker probably would have decisioned George had the two fought. And Tucker probably would have beaten Holmes had the two fought towards the end of Larry's reign.
Tucker was bottom feeding for a long long time. 6 years without fighting anyone any good before the Douglas fight can only mean one of two things #1 nobody decent wanted to fight him for the money available or #2 he was over protected. I recon he was avoided throughout his career, at least until he hit the skids anyway. Lack of decent opposition and inactivity proberbly prevented him being a great fighter. History is full of such examples.
He fought a guy named Danny Sutton in August of 1982, and they banged their knees together.Originally, it was called a loss for Tucker, but they changed it to a No Contest. After that, he was out about 15 months or so.That, managerial problems, and drugs ruined his career.Mitch Green would have also been a nice fight for him, about 1984-1985.
Ha, that's a joke Wladimir is a much better fighter than tony. Wlad has the better jab, he has more skills, has better control of range, he hits much harder in both hands, he has the much greater right hand, he is much stronger, he has faster hands, and his ring IQ is much greater. Wlad by UD
