Considering a significantly inferior Douglas was ahead on the cards before he quit against Tucker years earlier, Tokyo Douglas takes this easily.

This version wouldn’t quit in a million years.

The Douglas who faced Tucker would’ve said “**** this, I’m out” after Tyson nearly took his head off with that uppercut.

Take away Douglas' Mom and he wins out against most titlists from the '80s.
Except Holmes, and Tyson, and Witherspoon, and Weaver, and...

Not so sure exactly HOW much better Tokyo Douglas was than the one Tucker faced. At the time of their meeting, Douglas was 26 years old, a respectable 228 lbs and had recently acquired one of his better wins. Also, that fight was just about even at the time of the stoppage rather than Buster being so far ahead as some have stated in the past. I think that Mike Tyson’s lackluster performance had as much to do with his being beaten as it did Douglas being a Superman for one night only.

Did he really “ quit” though ? Look at about 9:07. Seems like he was exhausted and getting battered at the time of the stoppage.

Honestly, the level of skill demonstrated by both Douglas and Tucker was extraordinary that night.

He dropped tools and opted out in the eyes of many and his dad said as much believing he didn't fight hard enough. He just stopped, he'd had enough for the night after fighting very impressively up until then. The commentators are rather surprised but have to watch their p's and q's. Tucker just plain wanted it more that night.

He wanted to be there and was more motivated than at any time in his boxing life. He had a lot of talent and won a lot of fights just going thru the motions and not too much above. Tho pretty heavy against Tyson he was primed both mentally and physically. He was like some others who were never really "into" the whole fight game. We only have to look at him post title, he'd climbed the mountain and no longer gave a damn which was a crying shame really.

Maybe those assertions are correct. Watching that fight it looks like he just started getting exhausted and began getting his ass kicked though. Tends to happen. And unlike Tyson, Tucker was a big man who eliminated the biggest advantage that Douglas would have years later against Tyson

Could you give specific scenarios regarding how this would play out against 1988 Tyson and Holmes, please?

That uppercut was an absolute peach of a punch.

In the following round which was a great round of some give and take, Buster had Mike bailed up on the ropes again and Mike DID land another searing uppercut that caused to Buster to slump a bit and fall onto Mike and into the ropes, IIRC.

As well as his executions being on point, Buster upheld an ATG steely resolve and wasn’t going to be denied.

Tbh, I really thought he was going to clean up Holyfield but, alas, Buster turned back into a not so well committed or conditioned pumpkin.

I’m not judging him or blaming him but I thought Buster could’ve definitely arisen after the KD against Holyfield - his decision not to really punctuated the fact that he was no longer Tokyo Douglas.
