I'm going with Tucker, not because I believe he's another Ali, but it's a styles thing. Oscar would struggle imo with Tony's mobility and Jab . Tucker takes some good shots and out point s Oscar.
If tucker wasn't so durable I would pick Oscar. His non stop pressure gave 2 atgs trouble frazier and Ali so he could pull off an upset. But with the clash of styles, tucker might edge it on points. Tucker's problems was he could get too defensive and complacent and he might lose rounds.
i agree that he’s overrated. But I think that for reasons which combine styles and physical advantages, Tucker could have pulled off a decision. With seven inches in height, 20 lbs in weight and a well proven chin, Tony could keep the crab-like Oscar at bay..
Fair points my man. I get a bit tired of these Tucker not to mention Tua threads where these guys amongst others are so overrated at this point or perhaps I should say didnt live up to there full potential. Either way there names keep getting put in these matchups like they were these mythical beasts.
I feel ya. I generally don’t have a problem with matching those guys against other “ contenders “ from different eras. But when someone posts something outrageous like “ Tony Tucker vs Joe Louis “ I typically skip over it..
Oscar Ringo Bonavena who decked Joe Frazier in 1966, then went 15 rounds with Frazier in 1968. Ringo also beat up Karl Mildenberger in 1967 as part of the WBA Tournament. Tony TNT Tucker beat James Buster Douglas, then went 15 rounds with Mike Tyson. I think that Oscar would be all over Tony with his awkward bullish style. Bonavena did give a past his prime come backing Muhammad Ali trouble in 1970, before Ali scored the stoppage win in round 15. I do see Oscar troubling Tucker as he likes to bull a fighter and hit him with his awkward blows. Bonavena by majority decision. Tony has to fight backwards.
