Might be a bad style matchup for Mercer, but he did run close to prime Lewis very close. Who wins this matchup?
It's interesting to note that Mercer struggled more against 80's heavies than 90's heavies. However, Tucker lacked power (at high level) and killer instinct (bar the Douglas fight). I tend towards Mercer by close UD. But I can see the reverse largely possible (Tucker knew how to land to the body). 60/40 fight for Mercer.
Was never a huge advocate for Tony Tucker but I think THIS is a fight where he can pull off a decision. He was more mobile than Mercer. Had height and reach. Was well conditioned in his prime and very durable.
If there's one thing that Tucker could do at least decently well, it was playing keep away against guys he couldn't handle in a straight up brawl. I do think that this is winnable as long as Mercer isn't able to pressure him with his huge jab and right hand. I feel like Ray would drop Tucker somewhere along the way, but I'm not sure. Either man could win.
