i think the tony tucker at age 34 against lennox lewis would have given wlad fits....im not saying tucker would win/ but hes a power puncher and is 6 foot 5 and for lennox he weighed in at 235 lbs in great shape.........
I think there a lot of fighters who give Wlad fits early. Wlad is so stiff for the first half of any fight where the opponent mounts an offense. But Wlad gets comfortable down the stretch and Wlad has mastered the art of surviving the early rounds. There is so much ire directed at Wlad due to his chin and almost no praise given for his ability to overcome it. Btw, I've said some harsh things to you before but I share your enthusiasm for the HWs of the 80s and 90s:good
Tucker was past it vs Lennox, what about prime undeafeated Tucker, the one who fought Tyson and was IBF champ?
i think tucker came in way too light against tyson....221 lbs....i thought he was in better shape against lennox at 235 lbs...he was older...but had no ring wear/ just substance abuse problems and long layoffs......like i said wlad would only be 1 inch taller than tucker...... wlad would win but it would be a hard nite:good
I think it's quite amusing when some people give fighters 'no chnace' against Wlad. If Purity, Sanders and Brewster can beat him, then nobody can be completely written off.
No, he wouldn't and I got that atpe. Tony tucker was a hard puncher but he was prtetty much out of shape in that Lewis fight and he was caught, hurt and floored twice. Wlad has a lot of reach advantages and a lot of movement to stay out of Tucker's hard punching and could send him to the canvas anytime Tony would just rest for a while. Tony Tucker was a very good opponent when he beat Buster Douglas, won the vacant IBF HW Title stripped from Spinks who fought Cooney and then showed guts and good spirits to go 12 rounds with Mike Tyson but in 1987, see how long that was back in time.
His size, skill and athleticism alone would make him more competitive than most Wlad opponents but to say he would give him fits is a stretch. Wlad is not the same fighter who lost to Purrity, Sanders and Brewster. I see Wlad winning a comfortable points decision. Tucker would be competitive and have his odd moments but he is simply is up against a better boxer in Wlad.
True but I don't think they're good benchmarks for Tucker. The best one I think think of is actually Tony Thompson who actually gave Wlad a couple of problems for a few rounds (even though Tucker's not a southpaw). Tucker would have his moments, maybe nagging 2 or 3 rounds and getting his hopes up. Then the consistency and discipline of Wlad comes through and he KOs Tucker late.
im not saying tucker would win/ but would give wlad sum problems and tucker had an 82 inch reach bro......and i have the lewis/tucker on vhs also.....tucker was in shape
Go watch the Wladimir who fought before Sanders, and then compare him to the one who Beat Byrd, Chagaev and Champers...
Well that can be said about any HW fighter, The same Purrity beat Louis Monaco who knocked out Buster Douglas. And we all know what Douglas did to ATG Mike Tyson...
