Saturday at the Zénith Paris. Ten rounds scheduled at heavyweight (neither has any hardware to ante up, as both are coming off defeats).

Yoka dropped an MD to Martin Makabu Bakole ten months ago. Takam survived two knockdowns to reach the cards in a UD loss to Arslanbek Ruslanovich Mahmudov in September.

Probably of greater consequence to either man than any bauble the likes of which they've held in the past (European Union or Silver or Intercontinental) will be the fact that whoever emerges victorious will be the clear number one professional heavyweight boxer in all of France. The only threat on the horizon is young prospect Mourad Aliev, if you count him - born in Russia to Azerbaijani parents and then becoming a French citizen under political asylum five years ago but based out of Germany for his entire career so far. I put both comfortably ahead of Johann "The Reptile" Duhaupas (who is the same 42 years old as Takam, and was already stopped in a round by Yoka ...having been for a time IMO vastly overrated by many fans based on merely defeating the mediocre Charr and giving Wilder some unexpected difficulty).

I have the impression that the fight is rather expected in France. More than Yoka's previous fights.

Can't think of a bigger domestic event for them recently.

Ride off into the sunset with that, giving Coquette two consecutive L's? Ça me réjouit! :)

I was impressed with the toughness of Yoka against Bakole. I expected him to get beat but he withstood a lot of beating in that fight. I reckon Yoka might win on points.

I'll go with Takam. Yoka is too fragile

Despite losing to Bakole, Yoka surprised me with his ability to hang in there for the full 10 rounds. Takam we all know fades later in the fight so Yoka should be able to win a points decision. Unless Yoka beats him convincingly, I see little upside for Yoka with this fight, other than domestic bragging rights, he's expected to win against a 42 year old Takam who's lost his last 2 fights and now looks done at the top level having lost to the very limited Makhmadov.

I have zero doubt Yoka doesn't hit nearly as hard as Makhmudov, against whom, without the 2 knockdowns, it could've feasibly been scored a draw. So if Takam paces himself well, looks for openings, and applies intelligent pressure... which he's pretty excellent at, he can possibly pull the upset here, and by stoppage. The only reason why Bakole couldn't stop his frail ass is because Bakole wasn't skilled enough to cut the ring off, to find openings, to force openings or make him fight every second of the round when Yoka went hyper defensive. Takam is capable of doing that. So this one is a genuine toss up.

Yoka UD. There is a reason they picked Takam for his come back fight after Bakole.

Yoka should win by UD, Takam is too old and it will decide in Yoka's favor, Yoka survived all the rounds against Bakole because Bakole is not such a big puncher...

Don't diss Johann, now.;) Johann did knock out the then-undefeated and highly-rated Robert Helenius.

I believe the only rated opponent Takam ever beat was Tony Thompson by decision in one of Tony's last fights. Yoka hasn't beaten anyone rated yet.

Also, more than half of Johann's seven losses came against drug cheats - Big Baby Miller, Povetkin, Yoka, Teper.

Johann was a good pro. But he's been finished as a top fighter for a long time now. Probably since the debacle in Russia against the juiced-to-the-gills Povetkin.

As for the fight Saturday, Yoka could become the biggest Olympic Gold Medal bust in some time if he falls to 11-2 and drops back-to-back fights in Paris. That would not be good for French sports.

So, if it goes to the cards, I don't see Takam taking it.
