I think he should be getting the big assignments in vegas Bayless is good but very similar to Cortez in that he breaks up in fighting too quickly. He literally jumps in whenever two fighters get close. Weeks refereed Corrales v Castillo I and allowed both fighters to lean and fight on the inside. Had Bayless or Cortez been in charge we wouldn't have seen the same fights
Nonsense. How can you say a ref would've had such an impact on a fight to drastically change the style and trajectory of it. Corrales/Castillo was the styles of the fighters and nothing to do with the ref.
A referee is a HUGELY important factor in the flow of a fight. I certainly think so after watching years of boxing
i agree that weeks is good but i also like bayless. i don't agree with every call he has ever made but i think he uses sound judgement in every fight and he reffed some of my favorite fights. the ones that ruin a fight are cortez: let me cover my mike while i find out if i can change the outcome of this fight, soto vs ?; laurence cole "you're ahead on points if the fight ends now, what do you wanna do? marquez vs ?, and mercante jr "we're all family here zab. we'll take care of you", judah vs baldomir
I like Bayless and Weeks. Cortez and Nady are too intrusive. Way too intrusive. It's insane that Cortez is still getting these top jobs, he really does literally jump in whenever two boxers get close, which is ****ing gay. Nady is too vocal, and doesn't let anything happen that isn't textbook rules. It's stupid.
The guy who did Gatti Ward... Dear god, what was he watching ? I don't think any other ref would have let that fight continue. Hes my favorite.
its funny. watch espn classic and see that cortez was not so terrible early in his career. his downfall seemed to occur when he convinced himself that he was as big an attraction as the fighter themselves and he adopted that silly little pre-fight quote. ever noticed how even the hbo announcers seem to be mocking him? atsch
