Tony Weeks is the Ref for Mayweather-Maidana

Yep, allowed Maidana to work inside vs Morales in the first round which caused the eye injury, he lets guys fight.

Weeks was awful in the Garcia vs Matthysse fight.

 

Good choice. Being he can give any instructions in Spanish.

 

IIRC, I don't think he's quick to break inside action either, not that it will help Maidana much, but it won't be intrusive in the bout should there be some inside action on the ropes.

 

It was more than a couple of low blows, he warned Garcia all night but Garcia continued & took a point towards the end of the fight, also when Matthysse knocked out Garcia's mouthpeice he was quick to stop the action to get it back in & the knockdown was a bit dodgy, Matthysse was clearly dragged on to the ropes by Garcia.

 

Weeks is the best ref out there.

Maidana got away with some big fouls:

-Big dick shot at the beginning during a ref break.

-Attempt at a knee to the dick.

-Second big dick swing towards the mid-late rounds.

-Tackle through the ropes.

Other than those big fouls, Weeks did a good job of letting the mugger fight his fight. He hardly ever warned Maidana for any of the back shots, rabbit punches, or other belt line combinations.

I would def say that Weeks favored Maidana in this fight. Not a horrible ref job or anything, but not good. Could have made the fight better.

A thing I find odd: why is nobody talking about when Garcia blatantly told Maidana to "fight him dirty" between rounds? It was clear word for word during the broadcast.

Weeks did help Floyd but that's OK I guess in the sick world we live in. It is all about the propaganda.
