Right, when there was dirty stuff galore in Mayweather-Maidana I he elicited praise for "letting the guys fight"

I dont mind a ref letting a both guys have leeway and let it be a rough fight but if the fight becomes full on holding and wrestling the ref has to take control

these guys landed 10 or less power punches per round, this wasnt a boxing match

Could not agree more. It was an absolutely disgraceful and embarrassing performance by Broner and Weeks matched it by allowing it. I thought overall it was a pi.ss poor showing by pbc on nbc. Marv Albert didnt know who was who,Flores was all over Broner co.ck until he realized Porter was clearly winning the fight,Jacobs sounded very inexperienced,Farhoods scorecard was a joke until about the 10th round.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of latitude in boxing that allows a wide range of accepted criteria in reffing, judging, and fighting. Nobody feels beholden to any one set of rules, or way of doing things, and success often crowns their decision sanctifying it in the eyes of many. Just as Mayweather or Klitschko are two of the most successful boxers, their fighting styles have found a lot of imitators and admirers. Tony Weeks is one of the most successful referees, with hundreds of title fights under his belt, and national tv exposure, so many people are going to take his refereeing as the standard that all referees should aspire to. Other referees will imitate the kind of calls he makes or how often he breaks fighters, and fans will consider his actions "normal."

It's a style of reffing, just like there's a style of fighting, or judging. Personally, I prefer Steve Smoger's interpretation of the rules.

A few no-calls, but he did try. It wasn't made easy on him, and he generally does okay, enough to earn benefit of the doubt for one night.

Tony disappointed me too. He let Broner get away with murder practically. He only deducted a point when the fight was already lost. You can understand Tony's actions really because I'll bet he got really hauled over the coals for calling Mayweather-Maidana straight doewn the middle & not protecting Floyd like a Mother Hen like Kenny Bayless did in the rematch. I noticed Tony missed getting the call on a few prime assignments after that
The BLATANT corruption in the sport is killing it

If you really loved & understood boxing you'd appreciate the way Tony Wilkes officiated in Maidana 1 fight
He called it straight down the middle, let BOTH men fight their fight. The only reason you don't like him is because he never Mollycoddled Floyd & stopped Maidana fighting like Bayless did in the rematch.
I bet Tony got his a$$ reamed for allowing the Maidana 1 to be a fair fight. But it was OK the Vegas judges made sure Floyd's bogus 0 was safe.
Tony wants to continue officiating so he followed orders last night That's my take anyway

Did I say I had a problem with Tony Weeks? He did a decent job in Floyd vs Maidana. DECENT not great.

But, it's hypocritical for people to complain about Weeks in THIS fight and not in THAT fight. He reffed it the same way...DECENT not great.

Obviously, you are just another butt hurt Floyd hater, who was leaping out of your chair after every shot behind the head, kick, and bite that Tony Weeks allowed by Maidana in that fight.

Calling it right down the middle would be somewhere between Tony Weeks and Kenny Bayless. "If you really loved & understood boxing you would appreciate" and understand that.

Hang on a minute did Weekes call Floyd on the incessant holding? The blatant foreams to the face & neck which are his trademark?? No he didn't BOTH fighters were fouling which happens in every fight. Weeks called that fight straight down the middle as an honest official should do. I wonder what Weekes would have done if Mayweather pulled that SCREAM!!! He bit me bull feces??? Not what Bayless said " I didn't see what happened but if he does it AGAIN!! I'll take a point. Now that is BLATANT!!!!
Oh BTW the BITE fiasco was in the rematch with Bayless You really don't have a clue do you

I was covering a fight inside the nightclub at the Rio and he stopped a fight ridiculously early when the guy from Las Vegas was at risk of losing to a guy who was like 3-8 on the scorecards. He literally stopped it after like one punch thrown. I mean, nobody really cared, and I was maybe like one of two guys from the press there, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't lose a little respect for him there would be a lie.

The fouling in that fight started with Maidana and from the opening bell. His TRAINER even revealed the strategy was to foul and fight dirty. You really miss the subtle points don't you?

The bite incident is only one issue...and yes that did happen in the second fight. My mistake on that. But, it's easy to confuse, as it was just a continuation of the foul fest from the first fight.

Sure, Floyd does his forearm thing in close. But, of course Weeks had to be somewhat fair considering just how much he let Maidana beat Floyd behind the head, low blow, kick etc. It was an ugly fight and Weeks let it play out as you said. But, in NO way was that a good reffing job. He really had NO control inside that ring.

People are only giving Weeks a gold star for his work in that fight; because, they do not like Floyd. That includes you CJ. Because, like you said earlier, Weeks was "trying to keep his reffing job" when his negligence favored Broner...who is another fighter people love to hate. Your bias is clear as day.

The guy from Las Vegas was stopped, or he landed one comeback punch on the guy that was 3-8 and the journeyman lost?
