he's acually one of the top referees in boxing so wouldn't call him nameless and faceless.

Even Don who was in Kovalev's corner admitted the stoppage was correct.

Who the hell makes a fake Tony Weeks account a year ago to exploit it for a fight they couldn't have ever known he was reffing? Is Nostradamus a hacker now?

Great job everyone devoting 8 pages to a clearly fake account. Didn't you all already feel duped enough by the Robert Byrd account after the first fight?

There is no such thing as a standing ten count in boxing.

There is a standing 8-count rule - though that was not in force here (by prior agreement before the card).

    The referee's errors were:

    - failing to warn Ward for persistent low blows
    - failing to deduct a point to correct the balance and deter Ward from persistent fouling
-not stepping in and allowing Kovalev the permitted 5 minutes to shake off the effects of the low blow
-if he felt Kovalev was too staggered to continue (since the accumulated blows included several clear fouls) disqualified Ward.

-Not stopping the fight when Kovalev gave up his back off a legal shot earlier in the 8th.

    I don't agree there.

It is one of the cardinal rules of boxing to never turn your back and leave yourself exposed - but that isn't a 'rule' of the kind referees enforce.

It's not against the rules of the sport to turn away - just reckless.

Why do you think the ref should have stopped it at that point?

The thing is Weeks was gonna ref high profile fights regardless; it didn't have to be specifically exploited or predicted to be for Ward-Kovalev.

They don't like him, that much is obvious. Did u hear what Don Turner was saying about Ward before and after ? two really extreme opinions. Turners finished with Kov and so's JDJ

Kovalev was clearly looking for a way out off a legal shot and could have been badly damaged if Ward was not a good sportsman and reset. He never threw anything significant the rest of the fight. Instead Kovalev still ended up taking a lot of needless damage, starting with the giant right.
