Not much on the web that I can find. http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.php/Tony_Weeks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Weeks
Some fan praise here: http://www.flynnfiles.com/archives/sports2005/the_greatest_boxing_match_ive_ever_seen.html
I would've liked Smoger but Weeks is a very good alternative. Weeks has some controversial decisions against him but what ref doesn't?
This was the guy who let Corrales go on in that first fight against Castillo. So yeah, I'd say he's the right man for the job.
I'd figure as much...still would've rather had Smoger there. Although Weeks doesn't have a quick trigger either. He did let Chico fight on after two KDs and two mouth piece incidents.
The guy who stepped in between Diego Corrales and JLC, Manny Pacquaio - MAB II, Wlodarczyk vs Cunnigham I, Hatton vs Urango as of late... One uncontroversial, consummate professional but he will jump in if he thinks that a young man is seriously hurt, he thinks - no Steve Smoger sort of attitude.
I have no problem with Weeks... I remember i tok a trip to Reno several years ago to watch a Cedric Kushner show at the Hilton with Andre Purlette fighting Jimmy Thunder in the main event and a showful of heavyweights on the same card.. Guinn, Williamson, Defiagbon, etc.. On my trip i bought a Nevada boxing newspaper.. It had a column called New faces.. It featured its newest star referee and it was Tony Weeks.. since then i have never heard or read a bad article about Weeks, he is indeed a star referee....
It's very hard even for an average fight fan not to remember seeing him... Weeks is a very experienced referee, one of the most well known, who - besides the first Corrales-Castillo fight - refereed the tragic Chavez-Johnson fight as well and never attempted to stop the fight no matter how many clean shot Leavander (R.I.P.) recieved. He's the perfect referee in L.V. for fight fans.
