2016 Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist Tony Yoka who is currently 3-0 as a pro has received a 1 year ban by the French boxing federation for missing several anti-doping tests. He's still scheduled to fight next month, wonder if it goes ahead.
Damn!! I was interested in seeing him even if he was a lil soft in areas. Yoka gone for a year? This doesnt help el poloclenlo one bit.
Isn't he in Vegas sparring with jo Parker? Send the testers round. I'm sure he just didn't inform them of his travel. That testing like being on probation, you gotta check in.
That means he probably was/is on year round random testing, like many other athletes nowadays. Doesn't happen much in other countries when it comes to boxing though. I only heard about boxers fighting on certain German TV channels (like ARD) are subjected to that. Missing 3 tests is simular to testing positive, so a year ban is not crazy at all. We're just so used in boxing that offenders get away with a slap on the wrist, or a very short token ban that this looks harsh.
rio ferdinand missed 3 tests in the uk and was banned for 50 games and at the time he was as high profile a footballer as there was why yoka is allowed to compete as if nothing happened is beyond me
as far as i understand testing you miss 3 tests in 1 year and you get an automatic ban so ferdinand must have missed 3 tests he also missed the european champs as well for england cant be one test joseph parker has already missed a test this year and is on a warning has to be 3 tests
No i looked it up there. He accieently missed one test, took a make up test the next day and came back clean and also offered to do a hair follicle test. He got an 8 month ban, but Fifa wanted to ban him for two years. At the time he was one of the best defenders in the world and Fifa didnt give a crap Shows how corrupt boxing is when Fifa make you look bad
So, will IsaL declare that Yoka deserves "the benefit of the doubt" like he did with Canelo? Or will he throw Yoka under the bus in a post like he did with Ortiz and Povetkin? Watch this space.
No he only missed one and took a make up test the next year. Look it up. Football is zero tolerance, they can make you stay behind literally all night at the stadium until you produce a sample
i looked it up you are right i stand corrected not a football fan but that is harsh now we have tony yoko who must be used to drug testing has missed 4 and just gets a slap on th wrist and boxes again a few weeks later with no ban at all
I find this unacceptable. When someone in cycling misses a test, they are suspended right away. Yoka, has missed 4 tests, even after a match and is walking away freely. Why miss a test when you have nothing to conceed? I think the rules in boxing for this, must be changed to make our lovely sport more credible.
