But try and answer my questions.

Let's look at the timelines, and who he fought instead, and look at the money he made etc.

You haven't put any evidence or logical opinions forward as to why the fights didn't happen.

Were they the four best MW's before the war?

But did he fight the WWs Holman Williams, Cocoa Kid, Kid Tunero, all welterweights of his era, though great fighters were never top gate attractions...Why do you single out a tony Zale, but conveniently omit the fact that Sugar Ray Robinson DID NOT give a great money shot to the above fighters in the WW division
but you lambast a Tony Zale because Zale did not fight the same guys from "murderers row" that Robinson DID not also fight ? Can you not detect a double standard in your threads that others see ?. Tony Zale at least gave up 4 years of his prime in WW2, but Robinson kept on fighting, making money and avoided the same WW murderers row caliber fighters you WRONGFULLY accuse Tony Zale of . Can you not see the truth S ?...Get over your obsession...It won't hurt, I promise you....

Robinson fought one of the greatest welterweights of all time...who is black. Kid Gavilán . Robinson cannot be accused of drawing the color line because he fought Gavilán

    Burt

Zale was not a great fighter. His resume is average. Deal with it

Zale doesn't make any top 30 middleweight of all time list

    You're full of it, SuzieQ.

You keep saying "Zale drew the color line" and talking about race, but you provide no evidence.

I'm sure if one of the "murderer's row" fighter had lost 4 whole years due to active service in WW2 you'd be saying what a shame it is.

Tony Zale fought Nate Bolden 4 times.
He fought Jimmy Clark 3 times.
He fought Milton Shivers, who Joe Louis praised highly.
These were all black fighters Zale fought on his way up. There were others I'm sure.

You make it seem as if Zale had an issue with fighting black fighters but I don't think you have a clue what you're talking about.

The only one I can find who was ranked in Zale's reign before the war is Charles

    Thanks McVey.

From reading these great informative posts by yourself, Burt, and the other great posters, we now have a picture of what happened:

    Zale did fight black fighters.

Pre war - he fought the biggest fights possible.

Post war - he slowly eased himself back into things before again fighting the biggest fights available.

So it appears to me that it was just circumstances as to why he didn't fight the other guys.

"Graziano a bigger fight than lamotta? HAHA "

Yep, do the research, you'll find out it's true. Graziano was the guy Mike Jacobs wanted Zale to fight in Yankee Stadium. If Jacobs had wanted him to fight LaMotta in September of 1946, he'd have fought LaMotta. Check out some newspapers during that timeframe and see for yourself who the majority of folks wanted to see Zale fight.

L, you seem like a nice and reasonable chap. To debate with an
illogical hater like SQ is an exercise in futility. He is a "hater" of Tony Zale pure and simple, posing as a fair minded poster
trying to correct perceived ills of the past as HE SEES IT..
    L. you cannot win whatever logic is on your side...cheers L

absolutely Disgraceful. Zale gets a pass for fighting lower rated mediocre rocky graziano instead of number 1 and number 2 rated Jake Lamotta and Charley Burley

Graziano was abaolutely petrified of fighting Lamotta and stated so himself.

Burt your problem is you are so old you are close minded.

Everyone knows Zale was not on the level of a Charley burley deal with it
