All I can say is that if Robinson didn't fight Bert Lytell then that sure is lucky for Lytell, Ray would have slaughtered him and Ray would have beat Burley and Williams and any of the other MR guys, they just were not money spinners as you said. Robinson is on a higher level than those guys. Sure the mob ran big time boxing but they were after money so if Burley etc could have made them more money they would have told Zale to fight them and threatened his life if he beat them probably.

    Burt

I respect you as a person, but as a boxing fan You've become a grandpa who tells old exaggerated stories to his grandkids that make then go wow! I think it's great your a great guy. You don't even realize it but you have become incapable of changing your mind, even after facts have been laid out to you.

I have seen some dogged haters in boxing forums, many who keep ranting about this or that but never have I seen anyone like SuzieQ, he just will never never ever stop going on about Zale, as I said before it looks like he actually has a crush on Zale, no matter how many times you say you think Zale could beat this guy or that or anything to defend him, Q will never let go, I think he may be a Staffordshire Bull terrier who can actually type.

Who are you? I've been here for 10 years. I've brought extremely rare footage and info to this forum.

You're a newbie, know your place. Keep your mouth shut

This above post is bloody disgraceful, how dare you, I have now lost all respect for you, anything you assert from now on I will just assume to be BS, I won't bother with you anymore unless you apologize to Burt and while you are at it apologize to all of us for wasting our time. You are being a total jerk off. I wish Zale could come back in his prime just to give you a body shot to your liver.

I know everybody that will see that above quote will realize you just referred to yourself not Burt, you are the one incapable of changing your mind........... jerk.

I just found a grainy video of Zale's first fight with Hostak, hard to see at times but the action is good.

Just because I so far have avoided the grim reaper and still feel age is just a state of mind, and have seen aeons of fistic events SQ, that you are incapable of absorbing, I WILL NOT be part of
your tired vendetta against a great and rugged fighter that Tony Zale was...I don't dislike you S, but I feel sorry for you.
Remember SQ, it is so easy for a person lie you to besmirch the legacy of a Tony Zale who can no longer defend himself.
    I hope you sleep well...:hi:

    Burt,

Many thanks for your great post, and apologies for my very late reply.

I'm fascinated with what you've wrote, especially about what happened with the referee in Cleveland.

What was the public's perception at the time? Was the referee just incompetent, or did he try to help Ray?

Also, if you don't mind me asking, did you ever box amateur or pro when you were younger? As I know from reading your posts that you sparred guys.

    Thanks.

    :good

L, the days following the Artie Levine/Ray Robinson bout in Cleveland it was reported in our local papers. Also on the following Saturday there was much talk about Artie Levine getting a raw deal in that "long count " in Stillman's Gym
where many guys were discussing that bout...My mom and Artie Levine's Aunt were friends and she mentioned this to my mom who related this to us. Artie Levine's real name was Lavigne...
As a kid of 16, I joined the Golden Gloves and did well sparring at our local gym flooring some other aspirants. Until one night I was boxing with a tough kid who split my lips and I had to cancel my first bout. The guy who did the damage went all the ways to the finals losing to a toughie named Paddy DeMarco who won the finals and later became the LW champion of the world.
Funny but AFTER my lip was spllt my boxing coach THEN gave me a rubber mouthpiece...Like closing the barn door AFTER the chickens escaped. I still have that mouthpiece which is now
    petrified and rocklike... ciao L.

Your posts absolutely fascinate me Burt.

It's a good job I live in England and I'm not closer to you, otherwise I'd try and meet up with you, where I'd bombard you with about a thousand questions.

Rocky Marciano didn't have the courage to fight Nino Valdes? Don't make me die laughing.
