I concur. Startlingly so. It and Springs Toledo's book "The Gods of War" have raised the bar for boxing research in a good way; to an intimidating level that Goethe would have appreciated.

'I wish the stage were as narrow as the wire of a tighrope dancer so that no incompetent would dare step upon it.'--Goethe

I feel the same way about boxing writing.

And yet we have pinheads like Morlock's who have never created anything in their lives yet have a library card where they can access a public terminal and post anything they like on the internet regardless of whether it has any substance or, as is most often the case, has no substance at all. His very name tells you everything you need to know: an underground dwelling troll like creature who terrorised the peaceful folk of HG Wells "Time Machine."

I never said you lied or fabricated. I said, as any writer can, you printed only those articles from the past that backed your point of view. You did not give a fair and IMPARTIAL accounting of the Dempsey-Greb-Tunney situation. You get absolutely spastic on here when anyone praises Dempsey or other fighters who could be a threat to you pedastolled Greb. You are a FAN , not an objective biographer. There is a huge difference! Anyone in first year journalism 101 could tell you that. I feel like I'm in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" when the patients are all arguing w/ Harding as he gets more and more out of control and Lloyd say's, "Why don't you just answer the question Harding?". Just answer me and have it left up here and I will bother you no more. Or you could complain to management and get me axed. Your choice, but I say you are afraid to say how he would do against the guys I listed because your real opnion of his success against them would make you look like a nut. BTW, real "the Time Machine" and you will see why the morlocks do what they do. They are not trolls, they are forced to work down below to provide a good life for the special beings (you, Klompton? The Mark Twain of the internet) above. If you're gonna put me down, at least get your references right. You'll get no hero worship from me because you wrote a long love letter to Greb
As I wrote while reading it; I liked it. I liked all the background on the forgotten ones in boxing and believe you did an admirable job. It is just that your sheer hatred and paranoia of anything not for Greb and for Dempsey on this forum is disheartening and really unseemly for a biographer.:hi:

And as I challenged you before: GO BACK AND FIND AND PRINT THE ARTICLES YOU HAVE IN MIND THAT I LEFT OUT. For you to make that claim you have to have some in mind so it should be easy. Lets see them. No? I didnt think so. I used and cited the most comprehensive list of sources you will see in any boxing book to date bar none. If I was being selective in what I printed, which I wasnt, then what does that say about guys like Fleischer, Roger Kahn, Jack Cavanaugh, Bill Paxton, and others who have written on similar subjects? So if my book is more detailed, more comprehensive, and draws from more sources how exactly is it worse than anything out there previous? Its sad that writing about Tunney's political and underworld influence, which was very real and a major factor in his career, is considered impartial. I guess I should have done like every other starry eyed fan boy and cowtowed to the universal picture of Tunney being America's golden boy. Its sad that pointing out that Dempsey played the system, spent the better part of a decade cashing in on his title to the detriment of real challengers, and was as complicit in ducking his challengers as everyones favorite whipping boy Kearns is considered biased. Its sad that writing in a factual manner with little to no personal feeling bleeding into the text in the effort to let the reader form his own opinion on Greb is considered biased, excuse me if Greb comes across as a great and fearless fighter simply for the fact that he was. I didnt really think it was prudent or needed to lead morons like yourself around by the nose. I say again, post something that I left out and we can discuss it. Otherwise you are just a troll who is making **** up as he goes along because he doesnt have the facts to support his argument.

"LITTLE OR NO PERSONAL FEELING BLEEDING INTO THE TEXT". Give me a break Klompton. The difference between you and the others writers are that they SAW and KNEW the players in the drama and you are a classic revisionist historian. :hi::hi: OK you can post another troll comment or put down of my make-believe life now Klompton.

Here is an excerpt of just one review. Had you actually read my book you would know that your comments have been so off base and so far from the truth they are literally laughable:

"Compton has carried out an astonishing amount of research, tracking down hundreds of newspaper reports, letters, contemporary interviews, scores of photographs, and melded them into an exhaustive account of Greb's career. He brings to life this hitherto semi-mythical figure, recounts his fighting career in detail through those who watched him in the flesh and debunks many of the myths and legends that surround the man. Happily, he does so without descending into the hagiography which plagues many books of this sort. The definitive biography of a forgotten great and essential reading for those with an interest in boxing history."

    Another:

"The author leaves no stone unturned, using every accessible primary source for every single one of Greb's near-300 fights."

    Another:

"Thankfully, we have fact-checking boxing aficionados like the author to inform us as to the truth.

Indeed, the scores and scores of sources listed in his chapter notes evidences that Mr. Compton didn't do his research simply by gathering up the same old Greb books and articles and rehashing them into a "new" book. Furthermore, he clearly did not cherry pick accounts of his subject's life and career that only show him in a favourable light."

    Another:

"The author gives great coverage of Harry's fights and doesn't embellish them."

I am rather curious to see some examples myself. Because I felt that this book was the most thoroughly-researched boxing tome I've ever read. Can you produce them, Morlocks?

Here we go again. Morlocks has left the building. A guy gets called on the carpet for making a claim and cant produce so he disappears. Want to get this thread closed as well Morlocks? Id love to see these so-called sources I left out.

you cannot produce what he did not show. You would have to go back through all the papers in diff cities and read their reviews of the fights of the fighters. iT WOULD TAKE AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF TIME, AS IT DID FOR HIM TO GET THE ONES HE QUOTED. But, I guarantee you he did get bad reviews of Greb and another outlook on his career. I have read all my life, 57 yrs, of these guys and have worked in journ. for 30 years (not in sports). He is only showing articles to backup his opinion. There IS another side. There was and has been no comspiracy throughout history to demean Greb by EVERYONE and raise up to two (according to Klompton) unworthy and talentless clubfighters. That is assinine. For 90 yrs Dempsey has been praised by those who saw him in his absolute prime. And all the polls from the first half of the century did NOT list Greb highly (though I think he was one of the 5 greatest fighters). That is no coincidence or conspiracy and to come on a website for fans of a sport and just trash two American heroes because of bias EVERYTIME they are mentioned is bull****. Why don't you ask him to answer my question and leave it up so you can see what he thinks of Greb vis-a-vie the fighters I mentioned? What harm will it do if he does and leaves it up? What is he afraid of? It will shut me up. So why doesn't he just answer it? I answered you. Just because he wrote a book covering his side does not make him right. Obama and co. twist stuff all the time to make things look their way. He is only telling one side; his. I was a huge fan of Greb until Klompton turned fanatic and started putting down other fighters at every turn (Dempsey, Tunney) whenever there is a thread on them. I repeat. Answer my question Harding (Klompton) and I'll shut up.

All I want is an answer to my question and to be able to state an opinion w/out Klompton or Flay Man calling names and putting down other peoples fav fighters and the posters as nonothing ignoramisous. It's elitist bull**** and I've always railed against such behavior. I DO love to argue, but this is for a reason. You all should ask him to stop hiding and answer my question. When I get back to work tomorrow I'll state my replies. RESPECTFULLY.

Ah. I get it. You're upset because your favourites aren't loved and rated as highly by everyone as you do.
