27's a very young age to be spending the rest of your life thinking "I wish....." Get in there and do it. If you're not suited, you'll find out soon enough.

Do it before you're 35 or you'll need a medical in the UK.

I've been thinking about that question too... only thing is I'm 36! I've just recently quit smoking and I'm starting to get a bit of fitness back, so I'm thinking if I'm ever going to get into it it's now or never.

For me though, I just want to learn the basics and ideally do a bit of sparring when I know enough. I love the sport and want to get more of an understanding of it first hand (and hopefully it'll keep me off the ciggies).

The only thing I'm a bit apprehensive about is the reaction I'd get first walking into a gym, as a 36 year-old with no background in the sport whatsoever...

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice? I'm going to give it a go anyway, but it'd be good to hear what any of you think.

That is exactly like me, although I am 31, never been near a boxing ring but am a fan of the sport, I would love to do the training but would have to learn everything from scratch, if it isn't for me, then there is no disgrace in walking away, at least you tried right? but the thing that does get me is that if I did ever step in a ring for sparing etc and get given the run around by some 17 / 18 year old and get the pi$$ taken out of me, paranoid right?

It's not too old, as long as you have the correct mental attitude.

No 19-21 is definately too old. You may as well just curl up into a ball and die.

Nope - ever heard of Martin Rogan? In fact I think Craig McEwans dad was well known amateur in Scotlan who only started at 33!

Even though Marciano started boxing at the age of 20? Nate Campbell started when he was 24 for **** sake. If you have the talent you will go far.

I'm 22 and planning on ringing a nearby gym in the next week. I've been getting into shape for a while now, but it'll be a pity having to drink less

I'm not too worried about getting battered in fights though, there will always be other guys starting out in the sport to fight

That's a great achievment. Like i said, if you have the talent you can go as far as you want. That's the good thing about boxing, no one can stop you. Whats your name matey?
