Sorry, no... Stevie Johnston had more than 30 fights, before he reached world champ No. 5.

I can see, why one might think so... as McLarnin met an astonishing number of champs/HOFers during his career. But it actually took him 16 fights to met his first world champ!

    Jimmy Britt, who fought
    KID lavigne
    Frank Erne
    Young Corbett 2
    Joe Gans
    Battling Nelson
    Terry McGovern
In about his first 15 bouts.

Burt... you are right on the money;)

Jimmy Britt is our man - and it took him just 12 bouts to meet 5 world champions:

    Lavigne (in his 3rd fight)
    Erne (4th fight)
    Corbett ll (10th)
    Gans (11th)
    Nelson (12th)

(... and McGovern in his 16th fight).

Is Britt's record on boxrec complete though? Most of the old timers' records on there are incomplete.

You're right, of course! Many of the old-timers have very incomplete records - and some probably took part in dozens of fights in obscure places, which have never been recorded.

In Britt's case, though... it seems that he was quite an accomplished amateur, whose transition to the paid ranks was followed with more than a little interest. So it's possible, that his entire pro career has in fact been well documented. But again - we can't be 100% sure!
