Wow, I can dig Marciano at #1, but no Frazier?

 

I try to stay away from these lists as much as I can but I often get pulled in with the Heavyweights.

Well, here goes. Keep in mind my list is mostly based off of who beats who in a prime vs. prime situation.

1. Ali- He beat HW Champs Patterson x2, Liston x2, Terrell (WBA), Ellis (WBA), Frazier, Foreman, and L. Spinks

2. Holmes- He beat HW Champs Ali, Norton (WBC), Weaver (WBA), Witherspoon (WBA and WBC), Smith x2 (WBA), and Berbick (WBC). The 1st loss to M. Spinks was questionable. The 2nd loss to M. Spinks was a robbery.

3. Holyfield- after going 18-0 (14) overall, 6-0 (5) in World Title Fights, and 3-0 (2) vs. Hall of Famers at CW he moved up to HW. He beat HW Champs Thomas (WBC), Dokes (WBA), Douglas, Foreman, Holmes, Bowe, Moorer, Mercer (WBO), Tyson x2, Ruiz (WBA), and Rahman. He drew with Lewis and was robbed vs. Valuev (WBA). He beat more Lineal HW Champs than anybody... 7.

4. Foreman- He beat HW Champs Frazier, Norton (WBC), and Moorer. He could take it and he could give it... better than most.

5. Tyson- He beat HW Champs Berbick (WBC), Smith (WBA), Tucker (IBF), Thomas (WBC), Holmes, M. Spinks, Tubbs (WBA), Bruno x2 (WBC), and Seldon (WBA). He was faster and punched harder than most.

6. Lewis- He was stopped twice but he also beat those two fighters. At his best he was almost impossible to beat. He beat HW Champs Weaver (WBA), Tucker (IBF), McCall (WBC), Bruno (WBC), Botha (IBF), Morrison (WBO), Mercer (WBO), Akinwande (WBO), Holyfield, Rahman, Tyson, Briggs, and V. Klitschko.

7. V. Klitschko- He has the right combination of size and skill. He's durable, he's huge, he's never been down, he has rarely lost a round.

8. W. Klitschko- He may be a better overall fighter than his brother but he isn't as durable.

9. Louis- He beat HW Champs Schmeling, Sharkey, Carnera, Baer, Braddock, and Walcott x2... 2nd behind Holyfield on the most Lineal HW Champs defeated list, 6.

10. Marciano- He's small but we never saw him beat so it's hard to imagine. He went 6-0 (5) Hall of Famers.

11. Frazier- At his best it's hard to imagine many beating him.

To me Marciano at #1 is 10 times more justified than larry holmes at number 2. Larry got beat up by old men, lhw, small hws and just baout everyone, ducked the best fighter and true champions and never actually became lineal champ because he never won the wbc which was for all functional purpose the lineal title. He fought ali after he gave it up.

My bad, I've forgotten him. Yes, Frazier is on the list as well.

I guess that everyone has their own opinion. I've said that it was a little bit subjective having Rocky as #1 but there's nothing wrong with it.

 

Because he actually had a career as a heavyweight? Spinks is greater than Holmes, but his career following the first Holmes fight was all smokes and mirrors. He got a gift in the rematch and then avoided genuine contenders until cashing in with the Tyson fight.



A very underrated fighter (I consider him the best of the 80's) but not anything close to being a great heavyweight.
