By then he'd had well over 100 fights and was 35 years old and very far removed from his prime.

Take any fighter. Today, 14 years after they first won a world title, in a losing effort, on a reduced quality video, and see how rough they look.

You may be right. I'm just going by what I saw. Unfortunately, that's all we have.

There are still many ranked boxers today who work part time or full time jobs along with their fighting career. Bryant Jennings was a janitor and challenged for the HW title.

For many reasons, fighters from the past do fill the top of an ATG list at a greater proportion than the contemporary decades. Rightfully so.

Hardly. I think the average record on boxrec today is 0-2. I think there's even a guy with 200 losses on there currently. Who do you think is giving all of the young up and coming prospects their early fights to pad their records with?

Longevity and weight classes are great but who did you beat??? You can't be the #2 p4p of all time when your best win is MAB you just cant. He's simply not great enough of an atg for you to have for your best and get that ranking. The thread starter put erik Morales as a good win, no it wasn't he was shot and was coming of a loss to Raheem. Pac lost like so many other times when it mattered most, to Morales in their first fight. He also lost badly in his legacy fight against pbf. No way in hell is pac #2 atg or the Goat he's not even greater than srl whose resume and skill **** on pac. Popularity shouldn't matter when accessing greatness pac isn't a top 10 atg his resume doesn't prove it.

What are you watching? Benny Leonard is boxing like Floyd Mayweather with a low guard.

I think you did Armstrong dirty on his top wins. For example Robinson's wins over Angott get mentioned but not a past prime Armstrong's win over an Angott who was coming off a win over Wille Pep?

Pacquiao is a brilliant boxer and a great exponent of the sport, somebody who captured the imagination of a generation of boxing fans and has almost universal respect.

We have to start with how remarkable it is for any boxer to be named in the PFP top 50. There have been so many great boxers across so many eras that inclusion in this bracket ALREADY means we're talking about an exceptional fighter. There are problems in comparing fighters from different eras, and many old-timers have lists that mean that nobody after 1985 was any good, and that's ridiculous, but still, it's a real honour. We can say for certain that Pacquiao is easily listed in those fighters. Win or lose today, he's a fantastic fighter.

Number 2 of all time? How? He lost rather timidly to the best opponent of his era, went life and death with a very good but not era-leading opponent in Marquez 3 times and got knocked out the 4th time, has a few rather ignominious losses on his record and fought some rather mediocre opponents at welterweight under the 'expert' guidance of Uncle Bob. That doesn't grant you the number 2 spot. His pleasing all action style may grant him 'fan points', but it doesn't elevate him to such heights. I love watching him, he's a great boxer-puncher, but we're talking about the very top table of boxing. Which of the greats does he beat to get there?

I respect the effort you’ve put into this.

Post it on the Classic too.

Pac should top 3 at worst.. Pac has done something that will never be accomplished and that alone is considered to be the GOAT material.

I think Pac chimes in somewhere in the #12-20 range, which is where he landed in the Survey here from the Classic Forum. It's all subjective of course, but I think Pac was rated very fairly here.

So if Pac hung around and beat the next #1 at 147 when he's 52 years old, it doesn't matter because his best win is MAB? It wouldn't matter?

His resume doesnt prove that? How many 8 division world champions are there? Lineal in 5? A champion in 4 different decades? You think itll be that easy to replicate? I agree that maybe he isnt the GOAT, but to say that his resume doesnt belong in the ATG or GOAT conversation is utter ignorance. Dudes struggle winning in 4 weight divisions, what more 8!

As long as SRR is at No1.
It doesn’t really matter whether Pac is at no2 or no15.
How do you rank this stuff anyway?
I have seen plenty of credible list who had Duran or Ali at no2.
To be fair, those 2 ATGs had their share of terrible losses and struggles.
Won’t get an argument for me if you put Pac at no2, cause no flyweight dominates welterweight for a decade in history.
