The only time i remember hearing that Dempsey was part Jewish was from Bert Sugar on a documentary (Sports Century i think) and i tend to regard about 50% of what comes out of Sugar's mouth as Folktale bull**** rather than actual fact. I don't remember ever reading that he was part Jewish in any of his Biographies, anything from Dempsey himself on that?

Why so high with Baer? He lost several matchs, beat Carnera because breaking his ankle and punched him when Primo was down..aside his very hard punch and chin , Baer was not that much, lost the title in his first defence and quit with Luis when was still able to fight.
Baer would be rate among the hardest hitter but as champion he was only decent.

 

he had a jewish grandmother. I never understood what a part indian jewish woman was doing on the great plains way back then but dempsey did say that in his book. I know he courted a lot of irish suport but apart from his name I think his gene pool was loaded with quite a few too many races to be too much of any one thing. dempsey was a pure hybrid american.

max baers mother was scotch irish and his father a part jewish german butcher. ray arcel watched max bathe and said max wasnt that jewish..
