Little Tommy took his title around the world, he was a very good champion, imo, fast, clever and carried a punch ,he had the misfortune to be dogged by an ATG,for whom he was no match ,but he was a REAL CHAMP,imo.

Then how could you possibly rate vitali over wlad? Wlad has accomplished far more than vitali.

I don't understand this thread. Why does it matter what color a person is? And SuzieQ49, how do you have Mike Tyson over Evander Holyfield? Please explain.

    Pretty Simple really.

Mike Tysons 1980s title reign exceeds anything holyfield accomplished. It was much more dominant, consistent, and structured than anything holyfield ever put together. Tyson proved himself the best of an era, holyfield never did that and his two title reigns as linear champ was filled with struggles and inconsistencies. I like to rate a fighter on what he was like in his prime, and tyson in his prime had one of the best title reigns of all time. Holyfield was inconsistent in his prime and his title reigns were very unimpressive. H2H, I like tyson on his best day not only to knockout holyfield, but to do better against the rest of the field than Evander.

    * Interesting note, Tyson did something in one year a heavyweight champion has not replicated to this day...Unify All 3 major belts. Because of Tyson, the heavyweight division which was in shambles in 1986 was cleaned up and we got a true linear champ again.

    Johnson?

It was a very good tenure, but he was never the best fighter in the world, unlike Jeffries.

I agree, he was a very good champion, it is a bit of a shame for him that he run into one of (and arguably the) greatest of all time.

I am not sure who these blokes are but i would certainly hope Jeffries name isnt included among them. Jeffries not only fought and beat dangerous black contenders, one of them was probably the longest reigning coloured champion ever!

Incidentally, in regards to the original question, off the top of my head, if there was a black vs white atg challenge, how about the following rankings/match up/tournament seedings.

    Ali - Marciano
    Louis - Schmelling
    Foreman - Tunney
    Johnson - Choynski
    Holmes - Jeffries
    Liston - Sullivan
    Bowe - Golota
    Lewis - Dempsey

Ali - Marciano, 50 50 either way imo. It would be a war. I think Marciano brings MORE to the table than Fraizer with more power and 2 handed fist, and arkward movements.
Louis - Schmelling, Schmelling did it onces, I think he might be able to do it again, if in his prime and has the mind set of fight 1 perhaps. People forget that Schmelling was past his prime in the rematch, all things fair, I give Max a good chance to pull it off again.
Foreman - Tunney, Tunney could run for the first 5 or 6 rounds, and stay out of Foreman's blows, wear Foreman out and down. I can see it. Tunney also has the chin to take Foreman's firepower imo.
Johnson - Choynski, Choynski did beat Johnson, so he might be able to pull it off, To bad the only film we have is the Jeff sparing thing, but this is base on records and there fight.
Holmes - Jeffries, depends on rule set, I favor Jeff in 1900's.
Liston - Sullivan, Again rule set. Sullivan does have a cast iron chin though.
Bowe - Golota, If Golota's head was screw on right, he would have been 2-0 vs Bowe.
    Lewis - Dempsey
I might favor Louis, but Dempsey does have the power to repeat what Rahman did. I think its 50 50.

+1 Marciano might do well under those conditions, too.
