Hagler being the 6th best ever is a joke and I first started watching boxing because of Hagler and I'm one of his greatest fans. Believe me I wish he was 6th, but he's not. And Tyson while he may have peaked very high and I remember in "86 thinking he was indestructible, at the end of the day he wasn't even the best fighter during his career, never mind all time. And Mayweather making it anywhere near a top ten list is a waste of time discussing.
1. Ray Robinson 2. Harry Greb 3. Henry Armstrong 4. Benny Leonard 5. Willie Pep 6. Muhammad Ali 7. Bob Fitzsimmons 8. Roberto Duran 9. Sam Langford 10. Ray leonard 11. Joe gans
Mayweather at 3? Tyson above Duran? I don't like dissecting peoples rankings but Id love to hear the reasoning on how Tyson is above Duran
My list isn't based solely on resume. Tyson was ducked by everyone in his prime, so on my list of skills+resume he makes it to the top 10, if we go by resume he's not even close.
01 - Langford 02 - Greb 03 - Robinson 04 - Armstrong 05 - Charles 06 - Ali 07 - Fitzsimmons 08 - Gans 09 - Louis 10 - Duran
Pacquiao is an 8 division champ and fighter of the decade By rights he deserves to be on the list Top 10 I prefer a tier list of the best pound for pounders- I accept my opinions can change over time S tier - this is the absolute highest tier a boxer can reach. He has to have been so incredibly perfect in some way that no one can dispute it Robinson- his work at 147 is insane The way he carried everything up is equally impressive- he is the best A tier is someone who excels or produces something so incredibly unique that they are legends- s tier means a flawless resume, a tier means on their best night they were as good as s tier and they had a very solid resume to back it up Harry greb- he did it with one eye no less Duran- if Montreal Duran stuck around, he would have dethroned Robinson as the best ever Ali- from begining to end, his career is flawless. Beat Liston and only improved If his 3 missing years weren't taken away, who knows....he won the hw beating a HOFer, he dominated the 60s undefeated, his 3 best years were taken from him, he overcame a loss to another HOFer Frasier by beating him and then by beating another HOFer foreman when he wasn't in his prime Armstrong - when there was only 8 weight classes he held 3 titles at the same time B tier is someone who has almost every required to be put as one of the best of all time- not quite at A tier but maybe after a fair amount of time they can have their career reviewed again and be pushed up a tier, or (in the cae of active fighters) be pushed down a tier-basically a cast iron HOFer atg inductee Pacquiao- 8 divison champ, fighter of the decade, wins over multiple HOFers After he retires there is a good chance he'll move up a tier, maybe just needs one last hype win and to not let his legacy fade Leonard- incredible talent, multiple HOFer victories, before he retired for the eye surgery he would have probably been an a tier lock had he not done so, however he did come back and beat an atg Hagler and take his belt, and his body of work before he retired the first time is absolutely top notch- he did beat a subpar Duran and Hagler but his win over and undefeated prime hearns is legit Hagler- brilliant run at mw beat everyone, and as a boxer was as complete as you can get, more so than most because he was ambidextrous and could switch Mayweather- purely talent wise mayweather is as good as Robinson or Leonard or anyone. His in ring adjustments are the best there has ever been, his ring generalship equally the best ever seen. His power at 130 was really good. At 135 and below his resume is quite flawless, wins over HOFers dominant, excellent technique. But, he didn't carry the power up, his low work rate means he'd never beat a Leonard, and his fighting choices have hurt his legacy, he should have fought PAC in 2009 C tier- someone who should be in a higher tier but has done something that holds them back- still an atg though Jones jnr- athleticism wise he is one of a kind, and arguably from 160-175 no one in history beats a prime jones But he missed some big fights, and suffered some big losses Should've retired after Ruiz or taken Tyson on If he fought benn eubank, nunn, calzaghe earlier, hopkins again GMAN and beats Tyson and retires essentially undefeated- ifs and buts, but if he did all that he would have had a legit shout as being better than Robinson or Duran Lennox Lewis- best fighter of the 90s by far, but laziness hit him caught twice and he retired to duck vitali- should have fought Tyson a decade sooner aswell Hearns- tbc
