I'm so disappointed in RJJ. The man is always my favorite fighter, a ATG -- but boy has he screwed up the image he built up through his prime by fighting on despite how washed up he is. It's ****ing sad man. Now he is just a glass jawed crazy fighter who just doesn't seem to get that he is way past his best and will never again win any meaningful fight.
I dunno if it's been said before, but Ricardo Williams imho was a much more natural and fluid fighter than Panchito, and he completely pissed it all away with gangsta ****. You guys naming RJJ and ****... a guy who's been on the top of the world can hardly be a disappointment. He's just getting old. Ditto Hatton, he's accomplished much more with astute management than his talent level ever warranted. In boxing, 'disappointments' are people like Ibeabuchi, Williams, Bojado, Ayala... should have beens who never were, and not for lack of talent.
Well RJJ has disappointed me more than any other fighter, simply because he didn't hang them up when it obvious that he was was not the same. I know what the thread starter meant by "disappointments" but I have to be honest. None of those guys who never amounted to anything were a disappointment to me, as I really didn't care. Although Ricardo Williams did bother me a little, also tokunbo olajide
I too am surprised at how many people would consider Reid a 'disappointment' without knowing his story. The guy was trying to cash out. Can't really blame him for that.
No doubt, I thought Olajide was the ****. He gave up too easy... tons of talent but I don't believe his heart was ever really in the game. More power to him. If you really don't want to be in the ring, you shouldn't be. People get hurt in there.
Not to mention that by the time of the Trinidad fight, he had to hold his head so far back to see his opponent that he was practically waving his chin in the air like a big red flag in front of a bull. I really think Reid could have been special.
Joe Mesi, Ibeabuchi and Tua would've added alot to the heavies. Pity their time at the top was short lived. That's the biggest dissapointment for me, as boxing is at it's best when the heavyweight division is healthy. This past decade has been one of the weakest in heavyweight history. Also Floyd Mayweather not giving the fans great fights against the likes of Tszyu, Mosley, Cotto, Margo, P.Williams, Winky, Pac when they were all talked about is a big dissapointment.
These weren't Floyd's fault. Mayweather had been calling out Tszyu for quite some time, as soon he made it up to jr WELTER Tszyu was dethroned by Hatton and Hatton didn't want to fight Mayweather at that time. Winky didn't want to fight Floyd, I think he thought such a fight was ridiculous. Winky is another fighter Floyd called out a good deal of the time... not sure why he wanted winky, sort of stupid.
Tszyu once said on an Aussie TV interview that there were discussions with Mayweather but that Floyd wanted all the money and couldn't make him a decent offer. Hatton on the other hand offered him 5 million. And as for the Winky fight Shaw claime they had agreed on 50-50, then Mayweather wanted 55-45 at the last minute. Again a money issue. Floyd could have made these fights if he really wanted to.
- PBF/Pac not happening - PBF/Cotto not happening - Vitali/Haye not happening - Wlad/Haye not happening - Vitali/Lewis 2 not happening are the ones that come to mind off the bat... ill have to think about the others a bit more as most have been named many times. as for fighters???? Bojado Spadafora are the two that come to mind.... how im dissapointed how their careers unfolded in the decade Cotto Miranda Vargas Mayorga Ouma Morales
Its stupid to put Hatton in there. He lost to fighters he was supposed to lose and won against some that he wasnt supposed to win. To me Andrew Golota should be there as one of the biggest dissapointments. The expectations were very high after his battles with Riddick Bowe and even though he was unlucky in many fights, he dissapointed every time.
