    Colin Jones deserves mention

No one ever seems to give Dave 'Boy' McAuley a thread

    Pat Cowdell

There once was a British fighter who was European Champion and beat Michael Watson, but only a few would of heard of him, when the rest look him up on boxrec...

I agree with you there, he'd beat most of todays heavyweights bar the obvious.

Was looking up Kirkland Laing on wikipedia, interesting it says this:-

Kirkland Laing now lives in Nottingham, close to his children and family, apart from his 24 year old daughter michelle lee he had with sharon lee who lives in harrow and his 16 year ols son kya he had with paula chan who lives in wales. Also my dad isnt in nottingham he is currently living in a rehab home outside nottingham.

Looks like his son did a bit of an edit to his page :yep

    Owen Moran.

I have to admit, I was one of the guilty parties here. You hear quite a bit about...Freddie Welsh, Jim Driscoll, and to a lesser extent Benny Lynch. You hear a **** load of wanking over Bob Fitzsimmons and Jimmy Wilde, especially.

But you never hear about this cat. The more I learn about him the more impressed I am. He deserves more recognition among the forefront of great British fighters really.

Good call with the Jawaid Khaliq, the man was underated but managed to win a minor world title.Only thing he didnt have was a big fan base and he couldnt get the big fights he deserved.

No, I would say he is overrated today.

This theory that the Heavyweights suck today (which is true), so Bruno could win a title is rubbish. The Heavyweights sucked in his era, and it was not until he met basically a decent journeyman with a chin, that he won a title, and even then, he did it by the skin of his teeth.

It became obvious pretty early, Bruno was no natural fighter, and that handicap really cost him.

Also poor (Cheap) matchmaking by Lawless, cost Bruno an education against the sort of fighters who could of given him a test from which he would of learnt and improved. Flattening old man Coetzee was impressive, but answered no real questions about Bruno other than he is powerful, well dah! But if instead of Coetzee, Bruno had gone six/eight rounds with say a Greg Page, that would in the end of benefited him more.

Yeh i dont know why Tommy Gilmore didnt do more to give him a push??? We could have had a potential domestic dust up with Jav "2 Sleeq" Khaliq against Harry Dhami. Jav from notts and being a muslim holding the IBO title and Dhami from Gravesend being a sikh and holding the British title which he won from Derek Roache but later lost to Neil Sinclair. But Khaliq vs Dhami is one we missed out on big time!

Jav only lost once in his career with wins over veterens like Willy Wise and Maxim Nesterenko twice, definately underrated!

Half of them if not all are nowhere near underrated, there part of the 'so underrated we now get bum licked till we are overrated'.

Bert Gilroy, Pat Clinton, Owen Moran, Dave Charnley, Brian Curvis, Charlie Hill, and loads more...
